Obituary -- (Findagrave.com Memorial #228849905):
RONALD EDWIN MYRICK
On the 16th of February 2014, at the age of 73, Ron was called to heaven. He died peacefully with his wife at his side.
Ron was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Oct. 25, 1940. He was the son of Irene Luella "Ward" Myrick and Lorin Albert Myrick. Ron's family moved from Los Angeles to Downey, Calif., when the children were young.
Ron attended Downey High School in California where he made lifelong friends in Jerry, Dennis and Jim. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 hoping to see the world. After his 3 1/2 years in the Navy, he had not seen enough of the world, so he traveled with his buddies to Europe for four months.
Upon his return from Europe, he went to work with his Uncle Harold and Aunt Margaret at a logging camp at Kennedy Meadows in Northern California. He also was an on-call volunteer firefighter.
After his parents died in a car accident, he moved to Lindsborg, Kan., an art community, where he learned glass-blowing, turning pottery, polishing rocks and his favorite, creating beautiful jewelry. Ron was able at this time to further learn and develop his own talents as an artist. He bought the Brunswick Hotel and tried his best, with the help of friends, to restore it.
He volunteered locally and was always available to help the town. Ron met people he would remember the rest of his life: the Espings, Holmquists, Elmquists, Bray, Heter and so many others. They helped him heal after the tragedy of losing his parents.
Ron also loved photography and always had a camera with him. He would go out fossil- and rock-hunting and belonged to the Prescott Gem and Mineral Club. His good friend Dave Smith would go out with him almost every week. He would photograph pictographs and Indian dwellings with his wife Jeanette and son Bryan at his side. He even got his beloved daughter-in-law Emily to go with them.
Ron had many interests and enjoyed every minute he had. He was well-read and read every night. He loved working with children and teaching them about fossils and rocks. He had a great personality and a great mind. We will miss his wisdom. He was very interested in astronomy and would set his camera to capture falling stars.
He loved talking with people and being with his family. He loved working on the 5 1/2 acres where he and his wife have lived since 1983. They planted 600 trees, and fenced the yard themselves. Ron taught his wife how to use a chainsaw; permits were obtained and off they went to cut posts. They cut their own firewood for many years. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and a grandfather for the first time on Jan. 18, 2013.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jeanette M. "Kefalas" Myrick of 34 years, but they had known each other for 57 years: They were 10 and 16 when he would visit her parents, who thought of him as their own son. He also leaves our beloved son Bryan E. Myrick; daughter-in-law Emily Ann "Briggs" Myrick; his 1-year-old granddaughter Milena Jean; brother Greg Myrick of Washington; sisters Diane Sebring and Linda Myrick of Utah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Luella "Ward" Myrick and Lorin Albert Myrick; brother Lorin E. Myrick; and nephew Mathew Kenney.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Ron requested his son to take his ashes to the desert and mountains he loved so much and throw them to the four winds. We loved him so very much and he will forever be deeply missed.
