Obituary & Biographical Sketch (Findagrave.com):

Caldwell Press

26 Sept. 1889

Jacob Wyscarver, one of the most prominent farmers of Noble county, died at his home in Beaver township Wednesday, September 18th, after a lingering illness.

Jacob Wyscarver was born in Greene county, Penn., September 15, 1817. He came to Ohio when about 10 years old. In early manhood he purchased 40 acres of land in Monroe county, but never went to see it, selling it in a short time and purchasing 80 acres that is a part of the large farm on which he died. The original 80 acre tract was augmented by the purchase of other land until now the Wyscarver homestead comprises over 800 acres of the best land in Noble county. The farm is the best improved and most convenient tract of land the writer ever saw in any county or any state.

The deceased was the father of 12 children, 11 of whom survive him. One of these, Thos. J., lives in Cincinnati and is the editor of the Harness World. Henry Lives in Kansas City; William is postmaster at Oakley, Logan county, Kansas; and James lives in Chicago. The balance of the family live in this county.

He has upon his land five dwelling houses and the best of improvements. In 1839 Mr. Wyscarver married Rhoda, daughter of Daniel Wendall, an early settler. They have had twelve children, eleven of whom are living.

Note:

Relocated from Pennsylvania to Wheeling, VA (now WV) about 1802, then to Muskingum Co., OH about 1816. (Biographical History of Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, Lewis Pub. Co., Chicago, 1891).

For research:

(1) A Thomas Jack appears in the 1751 tax list for Lurgan Township, Cumberland Co. PA (now Franklin Co.)

(2) Abraham Stouffer acquired land in Franklin County, Pennsylvania April 12, 1792. Part of this land was sold to Stouffer by John and James Jack. Where did they go? Was this the same James Jack who resettled in Muskingum County?
