Clancy L. Cox, Westfield native and longtime resident, died Saturday morning, May 10, 1980, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin where he was a resident in recent years. He was 87.

A retired carpenter, Mr. Cox was born April 10, 1893 the son of Mont and Matilda Johnson Cox. He was married to Gladys Kennett who died in 1971. The deceased was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church at Westfield, the Westfield Masonic Lodge, OES and Scottish Rite.

Survivors include a daughter, Esta Wise, Noblesville, 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. One daughter, and one son are deceased.

WESTFIELD____Mrs. Gladys Cox, 80-year-old resident of 320 E. Penn St., Westfield died Friday afternoon at Riverview Hospital.

Mrs. Cox was born in Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Kennett. She was a member of the Westfield United Methodist Church and the Westfield O.E.S. She also belonged to the Rebeka Lodge of Terhune.

Mrs. Cox had formerly worked as a telephone operator in Westfield for many years and had also been employed at the Westfield school cafeteria.

NOTI - A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at 21654 Vaughn Road in Veneta for Ronald E. "Ron" Shankle of Noti. He died Sept. 17 of renal failure at age 79.

He was born July 25, 1928, in Wichita, Kan., to Earl and Grace Wallace Shankle. He married Lillian Davis in Eugene.

He graduated from Elmira High School and served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He worked as an independent log trucker.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike and Pat, both of Noti, and Shawn of Walton; a daughter, Ronda Shankle of Noti; a brother, Dick of Salem; a sister, Dorothy Ritter of Eugene; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two children, Julie Shankle and Gene Shankle, died previously.

Lillian Shankle

A celebration of life will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at 21654 Vaughn Road in Veneta for Lillian V. Shankle of Noti, who died Jan. 5 of age-related causes. She was 83.

She was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Belcourt, N.D., to John and Margaret Davis. She married Ron Shankle in Noti in 1946. He died in September 2007.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Ronda Shankle of Noti; three sons, Mike and Pat, both of Noti, and Shawn of Walton; a sister, Emma Monette of Belcourt; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A son, Gene, and a daughter, Julie Ann, died previously.

Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service of Springfield.

Two die in Noti after truck rolls

A Noti woman and Vaughn man died in a single car accident early Monday on poodle Creek Road south of Allison Road.

Laurie Jean Maher, 23, 22527 Highway 126, Noti, and Gene Neil Shankle, 28, 21660 Vaughn Road, were dead when Oregon State Police arrived. They had been front passengers in a 1959 Ford pickup driven by Mark Robert Johnson, 25, 22527 Highway 126, Noti, who was uninjured.

The three were apparently coming from Allison Road and on their way to take Shankle home at 5:30 a.m. when the vehicle rounded a curve, skidded off the road on the west side and rolled, ejecting the passengers, police said.

He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Shankle, Vaughn, three brothers, Pat, Elmira, Mike, and Shawn and two sisters, Rhonda and Julie, all of Vaughn.

Her interests included reading, drawing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband; her parents of Noti; two daughters, Angelica Trudell and Maggie Shankle, both of Noti; three brothers, Shawn of Walton, and Mike and Pat, both of Noti; and a sister, Ronda Shankle, also of Noti. A brother, Gene, died previously.
