Joseph L. Moore, 77, well-known Muncie barber, died Saturday afternoon at Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Parke County, he had lived most of his life in Muncie. Mr. Moore had been a barber here more than 52 years.

He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church, and Delaware Lodge 46, F&AM.

Mr. Moore is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Philip Mier and Mrs. Leonard Pittenger, both of Muncie, and Mrs. William R. McPeek, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Frank, Muncie, and William H., Indianapolis; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Meeks Mortuary with Rev. James Lantz officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday.

Martha Pittenger Morris, 67, 1808 Riggin Road, wife of Joseph W. Morris, died Monday afternoon in Ball Hospital, apprently as the result of a heart attack Sunday evening.

She was born in Muncie, the daughter of Joseph and Jessie Smith Moore, graduated from Central High School and spent her entire life in this community.

Mrs. Morris was employed at Standard Radio Parts for 47 years.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Susan Lyn (Mrs. Jeffrey) Covert, and two granddaughters, Jennifer Ellen and Julie Lyn Covert, Libertyville, Ill., and two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Phillip) Mier, Huntingtown, Md., and Mary Jo (Mrs. William R.) McPeek, Greenville, Ohio.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Meeks Mortuary with Dr. Laurence A. Martin, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Mausoleum.

Pittenger Rites Set

Services for Leonard W. Pittenger, 54, 1808 Riggin Rd., will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Meeks Mortuary with Dr. Lewis W. Gishler officiating. Mr. Pittenger died at his home Tuesday.

He was a native of Delaware County, the son of Ernest G. and the late Opal Green. Pittenger attended DeSoto Elementary School and was graduated from East High School, Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Pittenger was a partner in the Nelson-Pittenger Tool and Gauge Co. before becoming president of Pittenger-Wise Corp. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge 245, Delaware Lodge of Masons 46, Scottish Rite and Shrine at Fort Wayne, and the Delaware Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Moore Pittenger; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Covert, San Pedro, Calif.; his father Ernest G. Pittenger, and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Morris, both of Muncie.

Ernest G. Pittenger, 93, formerly of 1600 W. Seventh St., died Thursday at Country Manor Norsing Home in Dunkirk.

Mr. Pittenger was employed at Durham Manufacturing Company prior to his retirement. He was a member of North Walnut Street Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Mrs. Marlene Patton, Albany, Mrs. Susan Covert, Homewood, Ill; his son-in-law Joe Morris, Muncie, and five great grandchildren. His wife Opal died in 1959 and his brother L. A. Pittenger, former president of Ball State University, died in 1953.

Services will be held at the Meeks Mortuary 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. John D. Lepten pastor of North Walnut Street Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery near DeSoto.

Charles R. Smith, 74, 2305 E. Jackson, died early Tuesday morning at Delaware County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

He was born in Pennville and moved to Muncie as a boy with his parents, Charles A. and Dessie Dell Irey Smith.

Mr. Smith was employed at Chevrolet-Muncie 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member and former committeeman and financial secretary of UAW Local 499 and also a member of Avondale Sympathy Club.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Belvia Fisher Smith; three sons, William H. Smith and Roger Keith Smith, both of Muncie, and Charles Robert Smith, Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Helen Crampton, Ft. Wayne, and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at Meeks Mortuary 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Charles Elson, pastor of College Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and any time before the services Thursday.
