Alma Grace Crowder

AUGUSTA - Alma Grace Crowder, 83, died Wednesday, May 13, 1987.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Douglas Avenue Assembly of God, Wichita. Burial is at 3 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Survivors include a son, Claude Templeton of Brooksvolle, Fla; daughters, Alma Jean Donald of Huson, Mont., Barbara Ann Ecton of Augusta; stepdaughter, Halyne Wyble of Houston; brother, Homer DaVault of Pratt; sisters, Opal Wilka of Wichita, Helen Lynch of Mineola, Marguerite Talbot of North Hollywood, Calif., and Dorothy Kielman of Pratt; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may go to the American Heart Association in care of Culbertson-Smith Mortuary of Wichita.

George Clarence Lynch, son of George W. and Anna Evelin Lynch came to a farm in the Ashton community five miles north of Isabel with his parents in March 1907. He attended the Ashton school and graduated from Isabel High School in 1922. On November 25, 1926 he married Helen Davault, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davault of Pratt. Their marriage was kept secret until the fall of 1927 at which time they moved to the farm two and one-half miles south of the Ashton schoolhouse. In the spring of 1930 they made the decision to move to Minneola, Kansas on land owned by Helen's sister and husband, W.H. Templeman. After twelve years of marriage, Karen Sue was born on August 24, 1938 and was adopted by Clarence and Helen, coming to live with them on December 22, 1938. During the 30's they milked a number of cows, sold cream and raised hogs and chickens. They were in the Dairy Testing Association for a number of years. Clarence was a lover of the soil and soon became interested in raising new varities of wheat. They conducted a Wheat Variety Test plot for 25 years, in cooperation with the Extension Division of Kansas State at Manhattan. For a number of years they produced and sold certified seed wheat. He was selected as a Premier Seed Grower in 1957. Clarence was very active in Farm Bureau, both on county and state level. He served on the Program of Works Committee of the State Farm Bureau and was a leader of the year in 1957 and won a trip to Washington, D.C. (along with other leaders of that year) in the spring of 1958. He served on the Minneola School Board for seven years. Karen and family returned to the farm in the early 60's and they have made their home on a quarter of Lynch Land about three miles from the home place. She has done a majority of the farming operations for a number of years. Clarence and Helen have one grandson and two granddaughters.

; Maria was first married to John Z. Griffin on 27 AUG 1967 at San Diego, CA. They had two sons, Shane and Christian Griffin.

Gilbert was apparently married to a Barbara L., after his divorce from Ester -- a California divorce record shows Barbara L. and Gilbert R. Brehm were divorced on 12 NOV 1982.

Gilbert Richard Brehm joined his Angel Nov. 9, 2015. He was born in Pratt on Dec. 21, 1932 to Wilbert Houston and Julia Fern (Davault) Brehm.

He was preceded in death by his brother Donald and survived by his sister Julia Stillwell.

After putting in a couple of years working in the oil fields, he joined the U.S. Navy, and proudly made it his career for the next 20 years where he saw the world.

In 1985 he fell in love and married Maria, his wife of 30 years. From this marriage he is survived by his son Thomas; stepsons Shane and Christian Griffin and five grandchildren. From his previous marriage he is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth, Doris, Thelma and Patricia; two sons, Robert and Ronald; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to SmileTrain.org to help children receive treatment to correct cleft pallet.

Donald Mike Brehm

Lubbock

Donald Mike Brehm, 69, of Lubbock, formerly of Abilene, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by family, on March 31, 2018. He was born in Pratt, Kansas on March 25, 1949 to Donald Lavern and Ollie Rae (Williams) Brehm. On May 23, 1970 Mike married his first wife and love of his life, Nancy Narlee, they spent 39 happy years together, until she preceded him in death in 2009. On August 28, 2010 he married Donna Carson, in Geneseo, KS, living in Abilene and later moving to Lubbock in 2012. He was a wonderful, kind and loving man whose sense of humor, kindness, generosity, loyalty, and integrity will be missed by many.

Mike is survived by wife Donna; daughters Amy Kipernes of Norway, Elizabeth Graham (Cory) of Clyde, TX, step-daughters Jenna Eshleman (Stuart) of Salina, KS, Jamie Penquite-Green (Christopher) of England; Sister Brenda Brown (Paul) of Preston, KS; seven grandcihldren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Ollie Rae Brehm, wife Nancy Brehm, and Grandson Christopher Peaton.

A Memorial Service will be held to honor Mike’s life at St. James United Methodist Church 3100 Barrow St., Abilene, TX 79605, beginning at 11:30 Saturday, April 14, 2018.

Memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson or to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

William W. Hoffman

William Wayne Hoffman, 42, of 4518 N.W. Bencrest, Riverside, a member of the executive board of the Kansas City Labor Council, died Sunday at North Kansas City Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hoffman also had been treasurer of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local 1650. He was also chairman of the IAM sports committee and chairman of the credit committee of the Trans World Airlines credit union.

Mr. Hoffman was a machinist and had worked for TWA 16 years. He was born in Preston, Kan., and had lived in this area 16 years.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Patricia D. Hoffman of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Christina M. Scott, Kansas City, and Mrs. Debra A. Fleming and Miss Kimberly S. Hoffman of Houston; three stepchildren; his father, Walter C. Hoffman, Sr., of Preston; three brothers, Walter C. Hoffman, Jr., of Manhattan, Kan., Robert Hoffman of Wichita and Keith Hoffman of Washington; a sister, Mrs. Carol Stalcup of San Diego; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Newcomer White Chapel; burial in White Chapel Cemetery.

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga.-- Marguerite M. (Davault) Funk, 86, formerly of Pratt, died March 1. Services are pending with Larrison Mortuary.
