Clarence E. Stahl
Clarence E. Stahl, 51, a former resident of Kokomo, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Hospital in Chicago where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He had undergone major surgery in April of this year.
Born March 10, 1901 in Taylor Township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Stahl. he was a member of the Catholic Church, and while in Kokomo belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
In Chicago, where he made his home, he was a member of the fire department for 25 years. At the time of the LaSalle Hotel Fire in 1946, he helped fight the blaze and was injured. He retired from the department in 1949 and at the time of his death was connected with the A. B. Dick Company. In his youth, he served a year with the United States Army.
He married Miss Ethel Nelson in 1924, and she survives with three of the four children born to the marriage. Surviving children are Mrs. Marcella Snyder, Mrs. Lucille Phelps and Mrs. Dorothy Rizzo, all of Chicago.
He also leaves his mother, whose home address is 702 Vail Ave.; five grandchildren; six brothers, Arthur J.; and Carl T. of Kokomo; Leonard H., Raymond W. of Tucson, Ariz.; William J. of Chicago; and Barnard T. of Rushville; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Rottermund of Chicago; and Mrs. Lucille Koors, northeast of Marion. A brother, Herman, died in infancy.
Funeral arrangements are still incomplete, but services and burial will be held in Chicago.

It was a western vacation for Ralph and Marcella Snyder, 205 Holly Lane, and son, Ed, this year. Their ultimate goal was Phoenix, where they headquarted with Marcella's cousin and family, the Ray Stahls. Other relatives, the Frank Kondolias in Tucson, also welcomed the Snyders for a visit. Among their sightseeing trips, the Grand Canyon highlighted their "take-home pictures." Ralph and Marcella wound up their trip with a weekend in Kokomo, to participate in a family reunion, to be with relatives they had not seen for eight years.

PHELPS-STAHL
On Monday, August 27, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Chicago, was the scene of a lovely wedding, when Miss Lucille Ann Stahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Stahl of Chicago was united in marriage to Glenn R. Phelps, Sp(V) 2-c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Phelps of Watsonville, Calif. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E. C. Sordyl.
The bride's attendant, Miss Elaine Westphal, wore pink taffeta and net, silver slippers and a band of pink roses in her hair. Bernard C. Stahl, uncle of the bride, served as best man.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore the traditional wedding gown and veil. The wedding dress was worn by the bride's aunt, Mrs. Herman (Stahl) Koors at her wedding.
A reception, attended by relatives and friends, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lick. Out-of-town relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. John G. Stahl, grandparents of the bride, and Bernard Stahl of Kokomo, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman T. Koors and daughters of Tipton. The bridegroom served two years overseas, stationed at Honolulu naval airbase in Hawaii.

John Fitzgerald Ryan Sr., 79, passed away October 30, 2008, in Las Vegas, NV. He was born March 1, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to the parents of Bud and Bernice Ryan. Before retiring to Las Vegas, Jack lived in Orland Park, IL, with his late wife, Rosemary Ryan. Jack was previously married to Helen M. Ryan. They had 4 children together and raised them in Oak Lawn, IL. Daughter Patrica A. (Joseph) Orchowski, Nancy J. (Glenn) Watkins; and sons John F. Ryan Jr. and Michael P. (Wendy) Ryan; Jack also had 1 step-daughter Sara (Eric) Oppenheimer; Jack was a loving and proud grandfather of Rachel E. Watkins; and 1 step-grandchild Noah Oppenheimer; he recently became a great-grandfather to Layna Rae Petersen. Jack was probably the biggest Chicago White Sox fan the city ever had. When they won the World Series in 2005 he was quoted as saying, "He could die a happy man." Services were recently held in Las Vegas with a memorial to honor his life to be held in the Chicago Area at a later date.

He was the beloved husband of Cheryl; loving father of Tiffany (Michael) Maciejewski and Adam (Heather) May; stepfather of Renee Sinner and Craig Nelson; cherished grandfather of Alexa, Mia, Kayla, Gavin, Madeline and Mason; dear brother of Eugene, Starla, Kenneth, Glenice, LaDawn, Linda and Norman; and uncle and granduncle of many.
The visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home & Cremation, 9568 Belmont Ave., Franklin Park.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
