Blanche M. Giesler, age 88, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, January 22, 2017. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral; Daughters of the King; a former member of the informal “Kudzu Garden Club” where meetings were held at Woolworth’s lunch counter and Long’s Drug Store.

Blanche was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jean V. Giesler, Jr.; parents, Charles Ristine Morgan and Lucy Wells Oliver Morgan; and brother, William Oliver Morgan. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Bryson Giesler and Victoria Hawkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy Giesler Fleming and Joe F. Fleming, Jr., Mary Giesler Harvey and John Harvey and Anne Giesler Abel; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andy), Ellen (Shane), Morgan (Jamie Shoemaker), Wesley, Michael and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Jake, Claire and Connor. The family would like to express their great appreciation to the staff of Deane Hill Place Assisted Living for their care, love and support for Blanche.

A celebration of Blanche’s life will be held 11:30 AM, Wednesday at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral with The Reverend Canon Thom Rasnick and The Reverend Lee Ragsdale officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Great Hall. Mr. Jackson is a native of Marietta who worked in Atlanta as a train engineer for 47 years. After retirement, he moved to Smyrna. He had been in declining health for several years.

Memorial services are planned for Tuesday, February 13, 10:30 a.m., at First ARP Church of Rock Hill, with Dr. J. Barry Dagenhart conducting and Dr. Robert J. Dr. Blumer was the seventh of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sherry J. Blumer of Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Blumer began two years of military service in the Army Air Corps in 1943, stationed first in England with the Eighth Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-17 and later as an Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet where he trained as a fighter pilot.

He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky ('48) and Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va., ('51). Dr. Blumer served pastorates in Virginia, North and South Carolina, and was president of Thornwell Home for Children, Clinton, S.C., from 1971-1978. Since retiring from active ministry in 1988, Dr. Blumer had served as interim pastor in fifteen Presbyterian congregations in South Carolina.

Those surviving include his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Katherine Tanner Blumer of Rock Hill; five children, Robert J. Blumer Jr. and wife Patricia McCauley Blumer of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Sherry Anne B. Gettys and husband Dr. Richard Gettys of Greer, Frederick T.
