Former Ventura resident, Margaret "Peggy" B. Taylor, 93, of Santa Barbara, passed away peace fully on Friday, May 16, 2014. Peggy was born April 5, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan, to Chauncey and Edith Burnett. Peggy attended school on Grosse Ile, Michigan. She graduated from High School in 1938 and continued her education at Denison University in Granville, Ohio and went on to graduate in 1943 from Michigan State University. She completed one year of graduate work at Kansas State University. Peggy taught kindergarten at Wilson Elementary School in Santa Barbara for five years and first grade at E.P. Foster School in Ventura for 25 years. Peggy and Joseph F. Taylor were married on March 14, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara and moved to Ventura where Joe had a long and successful career in optometry. Following Joe's retirement they moved to Santa Barbara. Joe passed away in July of 2006. Both Peggy and Joe were long time members of First United Methodist Church in Ventura and in recent years she was a member at First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara. Peggy was a member of the Assistance League of Ventura County, Rotary Anns, the California Retired Teachers Association, Chi Omega Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority. She had many varied interests including music, reading, collecting books and paperweights. Peggy had a keen interest in aviation not only because of Joe's career as a fighter pilot in World War II, but she was very proud of the fact that she had personally known Amelia Earhart. Peggy is survived by her brother, James L. Burnett of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2014, 4:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road. Peggy will be laid to rest next to her dear husband Joe, in Pembroke, Kentucky.
She was buried in May 2014 in Rosedale Cemetery, Pembroke, Christian Co., KY, Findagrave #151528908.

Former Ventura resident Joseph F. Taylor, 86, of Santa Barbara died Saturday, July 29, 2006, in a Santa Barbara hospital after a brief illness. Dr. Taylor was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Pembroke, Ky., to B. Franklin Taylor and Ruth McGee Taylor. He attended school in Pembroke, grades one through 12, and graduated in 1937. Those were the years of the Great Depression. He went to work that year in a fine department store in Hopkinsville, Ky., as the window and interior display person. Joe began college in 1939 at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., leaving college in May 1941 to become a naval aviation cadet in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps as an aviator and flew dive-bombers during World War II in the Pacific area. In 1946 Joe returned to college at the University of California in Santa Barbara and then attended Southern California College of Optometry in Los Angeles. He received a Doctor of Optometry degree and began practice in Ventura in 1951. In 1954, Joe met and married Peggy Burnett, a Santa Barbara schoolteacher. Peggy also taught in the Ventura Unified School District until 1981, when they both retired after completing 30 years in their professions. During his career in practice, Joe organized the Ventura County Optometric Society to enhance the intra-professional relations of county optometrists and to improve continued postgraduate education. He maintained the leadership of this organization for 25 years. Joe was elected president of the Tri-Counties Optometric Society in 1963. He was also a member of the California and American Optometric associations. He was an active member of the Ventura Rotary Club for 35 years and was president of that club in 1966-1967. Joe and his wife were members from 1956 until 1995 of First United Methodist Church in Ventura, where he served as head usher for 38 years. They moved to Santa Barbara in 1995 to the Valley Verde Retirement Community and became members of the Santa Barbara First Methodist Church, where they had been married in 1954. Joe is survived by his wife, Peggy Taylor of Santa Barbara, and brother, Ralph W. Taylor of Louisville, Ky. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
He was buried in August 2006 in Rosedale Cemetery, Pembroke, Christian Co., KY, Findagrave #151528906.

PIQUA - Eldon L. Bowser, 74, of 906 W. Grant St., Piqua, died at 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at his residence. He was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Springfield, to the late Clyde Edmond and Iness Marie (Walls) Bowser. He married Mary R. Owen Jan. 26, 1973, in Troy; and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Thomas) Beck of Piqua; a son, Douglas Penny of Piqua; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Gay) Bowser of Conover; and three sisters, Florene Burns of Greenville, Nancy (John) Harvey of Celina, and Judy (William) Robertson of Dunmor, Ky.
Mr. Bowser retired from Enpo (Crane) Pump Co. following 39 years of employment, after which he worked as a greeter for Walmart for seven years. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. As an outdoorsman he particularly enjoyed fishing and camping. Sincere appreciation is extended to Heartland of Piqua, Upper Valley Medical Center and Hospice of Miami County for their special care.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, with Arthur J. Bowser officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
