Born at Barton, he was a son of Mortimer Totten Broadwater. His wife Sarah (Wilt) Broadwater, preceded him in death. Mr Broadwater was a member of the Broadwater Chapel.

Surviving are four sons; two daughters; two brothers; 25 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Interment will be in Broadwater Cemetery, Fairview.

ALONZO W. BROADWATER

Alonzo Woodrow Broadwater, 76, Grantsville, died Saturday, June 3, 1995, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Oct. 9, 1918, at Bond, he was a son of the late Walter and Catherine (Wilt) Broadwater. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alonzo Dewayne Broadwater.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Jennings, where he served on the church council.

He was a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II, and served in both the Campaign of France and the Campaign of Germany.

He was twice wounded in action while in France – once on July 11, 1944 and again on Jan. 20, 1945 – for which he received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was a charter member of Grantsville Post 214 American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Mr. Broadwater was a retired grader operator for the Garrett County Roads Department.

Surviving are his wife, Betty E. (Wiley) Broadwater; five sons, Gary Broadwater, Mount Ranier, Roger Broadwater, Pomfret; Joseph Broadwater and Michael Broadwater, both of Grantsville, and Ricky Broadwater, Swanton; two daughters, Bonnie Resh, Grantsville, and Sharon Shawley, Swanton; three brothers, Ervin Broadwater, Canton, Ohio; Melvin Broadwater and Russel Broadwater, both of Grantsville; two sister, Violet Rounds, Barton; and Vera Wiland, Frostburg; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 6, with Pastor Louis Knotts officiating.

Interment was in Grantsville Cemetery.

Military graveside rites were accorded by the Grantsville American Legion Post 214.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Barton Presbyterian Church for Violet L. Rounds, 75, of High Street, Barton, who died June 30 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. The Reverend Vernon Gauthier officiated and burial was in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, La Vale, Md.

Serving as pallbearers were Fred Rounds, Tim Rounds, Geof Goodrich, Chad Custer, Charles Custer and George Broadwater.

Born May 23, 1922 in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sara Catherine (Wilt) Broadwater. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frederick N. Rounds; a son Eugene A. Rounds and a brother, Alonzo Broadwater.

Mrs. Rounds was a member of Women of the Moose, Frostburg, Md.

GRANTSVILLE - Russell Forrest Broadwater, 90, of Grantsville, passed into the loving arms of his Savior, on July 19, 2019, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born Feb. 25, 1929, in Fairview, he was the son of the late Walter Broadwater and Sarah Catherine (Wilt) Broadwater. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Ruth (Rounds) Broadwater; six brothers and sisters, Velma Broadwater, Irvin Broadwater, Alonzo Broadwater, Violet (Broadwater) Rounds, Melvin Broadwater, and Vera (Broadwater) Wiland.

Russell was a pit foreman in the Open Hearth at Bethlehem Steel Mill, Baltimore, for 40 years. After retirement, he spent his time gardening, hunting, and enjoying the company of his family. He was a kind and loving man, well-respected by family and friends. Russell was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church.

He was a loving father to Marshall Lee Broadwater and wife, Judy (Waggy), Manchester, Norma Jean (Broadwater) Williams and husband, Paul, Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Jeanne Marie Williams, Matthew Blair Williams and wife, Kasey (Egolf) and Sarah Catherine (Williams) Stehlik and husband, David; five great-grandchildren, Korina Williams, Logan Williams, Joseph Stehlik, Gabriel Cava and Emily Stehlik; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great nephews.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mert Maust officiating.

Barton — BARTON — Dale F. Rounds, 68, of 18930 High St., Barton, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Born Sept. 14, 1941, in Barton, he was the son of the late Frederick N. and Violet L. (Broadwater) Rounds. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Joseph and Gertrude M. Butts, of McCoole.

Mr. Rounds was a United States Army veteran. He retired from Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, with 34 years of service, having worked in maintenance. He was a member of Barton Presbyterian Church, a member of Loyal Order of Moose 348, Frostburg, and a member of Frostburg Farrady Post 24 American Legion.

He leaves behind his wife, "Peachie" (Butts) Rounds; two sons, Frederick Dale Rounds and wife Shanda, of Barton, and Timothy Ray Rounds and wife Melissa, of Charleston, W.Va; four grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Camryn Lynn, Sasha Joelle, Madison Marie, and Sophie Grace Rounds. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Custer, of Barton, and Sandra Wallbaum, of Georgia; his special friends, Bob and Annie Elliott, of Barton, and Mike and Karen Benson, of Ridgeley, W.Va., and many nieces; nephews; aunts, and uncles.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in Barton Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Morgan and the Rev. James Jeffries officiating. Mr. Rounds will be taken to church one hour prior to service.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
