Benjamin K. Myers
M, #145893, b. 27 February 1835, d. 21 October 1910
Parents
Biography
Benjamin K. Myers was born on 27 February 1835 in Fairfield Co., OH.
1 He married
Sarah Blumenschein on 14 December 1861. He died on 21 October 1910 in Ogden, Weber Co., UT.
He was buried in October 1910 in Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber Co., UT, Findagrave #75571509.
Benjamin K. Myers was also known as "Bench" Myers.
Note:
Benjamin K. Myers information per Findagrave.com memorial #75571509 and multiple online genealogies including Anibal Family Tree prepared by beillz on ancestry.com. There are some problems with the relationship of this Benjamin K. "Bench" Myers with the Benjamin K. Myers who married Sarah Blumenschein, and ostensibly fathered her son Benjamin Franklin Myers, namely the question of why and when did the marriage end, such that Sarah remarried to Amos Dodd on 20 MAY 1868?. "Benj" Myers, son of Henry and Salome, certainly was living in Washington Township of Tazewell County as of the 1860 census, taken in June, 1860, as was Sarah Blumenschein. So it seems reasonable to assume this was the same individual who married Sarah in December, 1861, in Tazewell County, and was the father of Benjamin F. and Jane Myers, who are found in the 1870 census living with their widowed grandfather George Blumenschein and some of his children. In 1870, Sarah (Blumenschein, Myers) Dodd was living with her new husband Amos and their first child, two-year old George Dodd, in Peoria. The online genealogies show "Bench" remarrying to Mary Allison Ellis on 19 DEC 1861 in Woodford County (five days after his marriage to Sarah Blumenschein -- not credible!), and fathering Seldon Myers, and then remarrying again to Jane "Jennie" Shoemaker on 4 OCT 1870 in Shelby County, Illinois, and having five more children with her. They were in Phillips County, Kansas by 1880 and Ogden, Utah by 1900, where he died in 1910. The marriage to Mary A. Ellis is not found in the online Illinois marrage records, although Seldon Myers, age 12, is listed as his son on the 1880 census. But Seldon gave his birth month and year as OCT 1866, on the 1900 census and his son George, who gave the information to the Godeau Funeral Home in 1839, said he was born 26 OCT 1865. So this suggests that Ben Myers' marriage to Sarah Blumenschein was over by that timeframe.
The newspaper obituary of "Bench" appears to align with the son of Henry and Salome Myers, but it does not mention a son Benjamin among the survivors.
There was a Civil War going on when the confusing events in Tazewell County occurred, and the explanation for the end of Sarah's marriage to Ben may be related to that conflict. I do not find a Ben Myers in veterans lists from Tazewell County, and the online genelogies that link him with a Ben Myers who enlisted at Detroit, Michigan are not credible in my opinion. DLB 2021.
