Obituary -- The Holton Recorder, Holton, Kansas; Thursday, 27 OCT 1910, p.12 (Newspapers.com):

J. M. Scheurer

John Michael Scheurer was born Sept. 16, 1838, in Hauing Amt Loerach (sic), Baden, and died October 22, 1910, at Holton, Kansas, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 6 days. At the age of four years he with his parents came to America and settled in Erie (sic) county, N.Y. In 1840 the family removed to Germantown, Washington county, Wisconsin. A little later they came in contact with the pioneer preachers of the Evangelical Association and the subject of this sketch was converted at the age of 17 years and united with the church.

In 1861 he was married to Miss Mary Eimerman at Port Washington, Wisconsin. To this union five children were born of whom two sons, Louis, of Independence, Kans., William, of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Hannah Hanlin, of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. F. Meyers of Independence, Mo., are yet living. In 1875 the death Angel visited the home removing the mother. In 1876 he was married to Miss Mary Elizabeth Rahr, who with 3 sons, Benjamin, who at present is principal of the High school Washington, Ill., Fred and Jacob of Holton, and one daughter, Miss Clara, survive him. In 1879 he removed from Iowa to Marshall county, Kansas and in 1900 to Holton where he has since resided.

The deceased was a kind devoted husband, a loving father, and a citizen who will be missed. He was true to the interests of his church which he loved. He will be missed in the Sunday School class, and the church services, where he loved to be, until sickness prevented his regular attendance. Besides wife and children he leaves four brothers, one of whom is a minister of the Evangelical Association in the Iowa Conference and was present at the funeral, two sisters and a host of friends, to mourn their loss.

The funeral services were held in the Evangelical church on Tuesday afternoon, October 25, conducted by Rev. M. C. Platz, assisted by Rev. S. S. Martin of the M. E. church, Rev. H. S. Bower of Westmoreland, Kans., and Rev. W. F. Welthausen. A quartette consisting of H. Abbuehl, Albert Jacobs, Mrs. M. F. Gabel and Miss Amanda Lueck rendered very touching and appropriate music. A body of students of Campbell College with their teachers were present to honor the dead, and sympathize with the bereaved. The remains were laid away in the Holton cemetery to await the resurrection day.

He was buried in October 1910 in Holton Cemetery, Holton, Jackson Co., KS, Findagrave #124906952.
