Leslie Prashaw

Leslie Prashaw, 58, Rt. 2, Dover, Ohio, former resident of Richville, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1985 at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

He was employed by the Longyear Co., at Minneapolis, Minn., until illness forced his retirement in 1981. Prior to that he worked as a transport truck driver for the Gouverneur Trucking Co. for 27 years.

He was born in Carthage, son of the late Robert and Leta Daily (sic) Prashaw.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Brunet, whom he married March 9, 1963; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sheila) Eggmann of Salt Lake City, Utah, two brothers, Albert Prashaw, Zephyrhill, Fla., and Reginald Prashaw, Phoenix, Ariz., two granddaughters, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother and two sisters.

He was a member of the Dover VFW, Dover Eagles, Dover Army/Navy Garrison, American Veterans of Dover, and was a Navy Veteran who served in World War II.

The funeral was Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at Toldand Herzig Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Richardson officiating. Burial was in Dover Burial Park.

ANTWERP – Mrs. Clara Patterson, 51, Spicer Road, wife of Frederick Patterson, died Thursday at 5:45 p.m. in Gouverneur Edward John Noble Hospital, where she had been a patient for three weeks.

The funeral will be on Monday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Edwards, with Rev. Charles Richard, pastor, and Rev. Peter Berg, pastor of St. Michael’s Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Edwards.

Calling hours at the French Funeral Home, Edwards, are Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a rosary recitation Sunday at 8 p.m.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her mother, Mrs. Cecilia Janack, Rochester; four sons, Michael and Frederick, Jr., Milton, Vt., William, Chaumont, and Wells, at home; three daughters, Rita, Corleen and Memory, all at home; three grandchildren; a brother, Albert Janack, Rochester, and five sisters, Vera Porter, Gouverneur, and Violet White, Mary Lohmaier, Vicky Lohmaier and Doris Hake, all of Rochester. A son, Mathew (sic), died Sept. 10, 1981.

Born at Newton Falls, July 19, 1934, daughter of Albert and Cecilia Moote Janack, she attended schools in Newton Falls and Rochester and was married to Frederick Patterson on Aug. 21, 1952 in Gouverneur.

The couple lived in Rochester until moving to Antwerp 20 years ago.

Mrs. Patterson was a member of St. Michael’s Church, where she had taught religion classes.

STAR LAKE – Mrs. Beulah C. Lashua, 59, Star Lake, wife of Bernist W. Lashua, died Friday night in the Clifton-Fine Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Hubert’s Church with Rev. James Ruddy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oswegatchie Cemetery.

Leroy W. Lashua, 78, of Rochester, formerly of Star Lake, NY, died November 22, 2018 in Hildebrandt Hospice House in Rochester.

Born August 19, 1940 in Edwards, NY, a son of Bernist “Walt” and Beaulah (sic) (Sawyer) Lashua, he was graduated from Clifton-Fine School in Star Lake.

A veteran, Leroy entered the US Army on August 26, 1959 and served overseas with Company A, 3rd Qtr Masters Control group until being honorably discharged as a Private 1st class on August 25, 1961.

He married Marian M. Collins on July 21, 1963 in Elkton, Maryland. Mrs. Lashua died May 11, 2016.

Leroy was a tool and die maker for most of his life, having worked for General Motors and Valeo Electrical Systems in Rochester where he had resided for the past 55 years.

Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and especially family get-togethers.

He was a member of American Legion Post 468, in Greece, NY, and was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE.).

Surviving are four children, Vicki Duval and Mark and his wife, Debbie Duval, all of Rochester, NY, Vincent Duval, of California, and Laurie Holmes, of West Bloomfield, NY; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald and Betty Lashua, and Ricky Lashua, all of Star Lake, and Harl Lashua, of Cranberry Lake, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Marian, of 52 years, he was predeceased by two brothers, Wendel and Joe Lashua, and a sister, Belva Riley.

A Graveside Memorial and Committal Service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 12 Noon in the Harrisville Community Cemetery, Rt. 3, Harrisville, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are with Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville.

CHASE MILLS – The funeral for Elwyn E. “Joe” Lashua, 53, of 346 Thompson Ridge Road, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at French Funeral Home, Edwards, with the Rev. Eugene J. Beaudet, pastor of St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, Star Lake, officiating. Burial will be in Oswegatchie Cemetery.

Mr. Lashua suffered a heart attack Tuesday before his car ran off Route 56 in the town of Norfolk and hit a culvert and a utility pole. He died at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the 7:30 p.m. crash.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lashua was a rewinder and skid supervisor at Newton Falls Paper Mill. He lived at Newton Falls until moving to Chase Mills in 1999.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping and motorcycle riding.

Born June 17, 1948, in Gourverneur, son of Walter and Beulah Sawyer Lashua, he graduated in 1965 from Clifton-Fine Central School, Star Lake.

He married Theresa M. Castell on Aug. 16, 1979, at Oswegatchie. They renewed their vows in the 1990s at St. Hubert’s Church.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Rex and Elwyn E. Jr., both of Liverpool; a stepson, John P. Roshia, Monterey, Tenn.; a daughter, April Lashua, Chase Mills; two stepdaughters, Tammy L. Roshia, Norfolk, and Mrs. Michael (Sabrina) Haney, Caribou, Maine; five brothers, Wendell, Dannemora, LeRoy, Rochester, Ricky, Syracuse, Harl, Cranberry Lake, and Ronald, Star Lake; a sister, Belva Riley, Star Lake, and 11 grandchildren.

Marian M. Collins Lashua, 81, Rochester, NY, formerly of Harrisville, died May 11, 2016 at University Hospital in Rochester.

Born October 8, 1934 in Harrisville, NY, a daughter of Reginald and Margaret Collins, she was a 1950 graduate of Harrisville High School, and later took college courses in writing.

She married Leroy W. Lashua on July 21, 1963 in Elkton, Maryland.

Marian was a mother, homemaker and writer for much of her life, and also did bookkeeping. Her writing skills enabled her to create two unpublished books; one that was entitled “Mrs. Santa Claus” which ended up appearing in Reader’s Digest, and, her second, entitled “The Bonapartes” which was a story about the family of Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother, and after whom Lake Bonaparte is named.

Her favorite pastime was writing about her family’s history and ancestry.

In addition to her loving husband, Leroy, of Rochester, she is survived by four children, Viki Duval, Mark Duval, and Laurie Lashua, all of Rochester, and Vincent Duval, of California; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a great, great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Collins, and her sister Aria Collette.

Marian’s Graveside Committal Service and interment will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 12 Noon in the Harrisville Community Cemetery, with Michael Gault, Pastor of the Harrisville Christian Church, officiating.
