Orville W. King, age 87, of Mount Vernon, died Monday December 17, 2007 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Orville was born August 18, 1920 near Brandon to Orville Preston King and Bessie (Higgins) King and had spent his lifetime in the Knox County area. He served with the United States Army in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines during World War Two. Orville retired from Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon where he had been employed for over 36 years, first as a machinist and then in the purchasing department.
He was a member of the Brandon United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Brandon and Mount Vernon, Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years. Orville had many interests and hobbies but he most enjoyed woodworking and rebuilding antique tractors.
Surviving are his wife Esther (Hunter) King whom he married January 14, 1946 his daughter Barbara (Harvey) Huggins of Mount Vernon; two sons Terry (Jodi) King and Randy (Michelle) King both of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two sisters Margaret (Louis) Rummell of Hudson, Florida and Jo Ann (Ralph) Auflick of Moultrie, Georgia. Besides his parents Orville was preceded in death by two brothers Francis King and Phillip King.
Friends may call at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon on Wednesday from 5 PM to 7 PM. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 AM at the Brandon Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Law and Rev. Paul Atkinson officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
