Biography

George Dewey Hunter was born on 12 April 1921 in Knox Co., OH. He married Phyllis Jean Myers on 3 August 1941 in Licking Co., OH; Phyllis graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in June 1941 and married shortly thereafter on 3 AUG 1941. The marriage apparently went badly during the war years, and she was divorced and remarried to Paul Neal Carpenter on 5 FEB 1949 in Licking County, Ohio, and apparently abandoned her two children to George's custody. They are listed with George and Anna Sarah (Waddell) Hunter on the 1950 census, living with Anna's parents on Crystal Avenue, Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Phyllis and Paul Carpenter were listed in Columbus, Ohio on the 1950 census, where Paul was a student at Ohio State University and Phyllis was an "office girl". Phyllis and Paul were in San Diego, California by 1963, and divorced there in May 1967. She remarried to Charles Teddy "Ted" Ashton soon afterwards and they relocated to Oklahoma within a few years, where she died in 2023.

A Knox County, Ohio marriage license application and record exists showing Anna Louise Waddell and James R. Curry received a license on 30 JUN and were married on 2 JUL 1941 by Rev. R. B. Frederick. This James Rowe Curry, born 19 APR 1921 in Alabama, and died 1983, was remarried to Laura Joan Pavone, born 6 JUN 1919 at Rockford, Illinois, and had two children with her, Patrick and David, and was living at San Antonio by the April 1950 federal census. Their son Patrick Curry was born 25 SEP 1945 in Bell County, Texas, so James R. Curry can be assumed to have been with Laura by late 1944 if not earlier. No record of the Curry-Pavone marriage was found. James Rowe Curry enlisted in the Army on 13 DEC 1945, in Illinois, giving his residence as Knox, Ohio.

He married Anna Louise Waddell before April 1950,

.

He died on 23 July 1997 in Mt. Vernon, Knox Co., OH.

He was buried in July 1997 in Brandon Cemetery, Brandon, Knox Co., OH, Findagrave #75334361.
