Ralph William Kneisly, 95, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief illness. Mr. Kneisly was born Oct. 27, 1913, to the late Ralph Aaron Kneisly and Jeanett Shafer Kneisly in Springfield, Ohio.
He spent his youth in Dayton, Ohio, graduating from Steele High School on June 15, 1931. He married Marrietta Shoup on March 2, 1935. He operated and owned a confectionery and restaurant from 1936 until 1940 and worked for General Motors until 1941. He then worked at Apex Tool & Die Co. making sights for bombers during World War II. At the end of the war he became a salesman of decorative fabrics in the Southeast. He moved to Avondale Estates, Ga., in December 1947.
In late 1948 he joined The Alf Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, which sold furniture fabrics. As a minor stockholder in 1963, he bought out the other company stockholders. He moved to Tupelo in February 1975 and remained the sole owner of The Alf Co. until 2001 when he sold the company and retired at age 87.
He was a Mason for 60 years, a Civitan for 30 years, a member of CDF of Tupelo and First United Methodist Church, and had been active in volunteer work until 2009 when he became partially handicapped.
He married Wilma Reeves on June 26, 2004. He enjoyed golf, big band and country music, traveling, visiting relatives that scattered from Seattle, Wash., to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, and his grandchildren.
Entombment will be in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum at Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Reeves Kneisly of Saltillo; his daughter-in-law, Jeanne Kneisly of Pratts Community; his grandchildren, Craig Kneisly (Cara) of Katy, Texas; Jody Kneisly (Jodie Lynn) of Pocono Mountains, Pa.; Nathan Kneisly of Jackson, Tenn., and Natalie Kneisly of Saltillo; and five great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Debbie Arrington (Richard) of Little Rock, Ark., and Wayne Maxey (Pamela) of San Diego, Calif.; three stepgrandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; his sons, Randy Kneisly and Robert Kneisly; four brothers; one sister; and a granddaughter, Marie White.
Honorary pallbearers will be his golfing buddies and the members of the Holloman/Covenant Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.
