Leland Tasaway DeVault
Leland Tasaway DeVault of Hutchinson, father of Mrs. Eileen Griffith of Lyons, died there today after a short illness.
DeVault, 79, was weigh master for the Security Elevator company in Hutchinson before retiring in 1957. He worked for the company for 38 years, He was born August 24, 1892, in Morganton, North Carolina. He came to Hutchinson from North Carolina in 1915. He married Elsie Mae Keever on September 1, 1917, in McPherson. She died in February, 1924. He was a member of the Bethany Nazarene church.
Survivors are his wife; eight sons, Keith and Kenneth of San Diego, Robert, of Denver, Donald, Gary and Bob, of Hutchinson, Johnnie, of Frankfort and Richard, of Seymour Johnson Air Base in North Carolina; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Hollinger of Wichita, Mrs. Marjorie Baerg of Arkansas City and Mrs. Griffith of Lyons; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Swain, Mrs. Etta Cobb and Miss Ann DeVault of Morganton, North Carolina; 33 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was buried in September 1971 in Bean Cemetery, Little River, Rice Co., KS, Findagrave #37867999.
Note: In 1957 Leland was living in Hutchison, Kansas. He was planning a trip to California to visit his sons near San Diego. On this trip he was planning to stop by and see Newland DeVault, in Banning, California. Instead, he decided to take a trip to Alaska.

EMORY -- Mrs. Nannie DePew Devault, 92, died Thursday afternoon in an Abingdon hospital.
She was a member of the Emory Methodist Church, the Women's Missionary Society, and the College Community Club of Emory.
Surviving are three daughters, Miss Mable DeVault of Emory, Mrs. Taylor Darden of Cresskill, N. J., Mrs. J. A. Waddell of Formosa; three sons, Col. Charles DeVault of Marion, Serle DeVault of Canton, Ohio, Shields DeVault of Woodlawn, Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The body is at Henderson Funeral Chapel at Abingdon from where funeral arrangements will be announced later.
She was buried in May 1968 in Emory and Henry Cemetery, Emory, Washington Co., VA, Findagrave #221264045.
