Adam Urish

PEKIN -- (PNS) -- Adam Urish, 79, retired Green Valley farmer, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Pekin Public hospital following an illness of five years. The body was taken to Preston Funeral home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

He was born Dec. 14, 1869 in Sand Prairie township, a son of Peter and Margaret Fogel Urish. He was married to Stella Larimore in Elm Grove township, Nov. 2, 1893. He is survived by his wife, five sons, Ivan of Pawpaw, Harry of Mendon, Guy of Green Valley, Peter of Hopedale and Howard of Oakland, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Sydney Kent Jr. of Pekin; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A son, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Urish was a member of the Presbyterian church of Green Valley. He retired from farming 10 years ago and moved to Green Valley.

Evelyn Lucille Collins, 95, of Pekin, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Pekin Hospital.

Born September 28, 1918 in Green Valley to Adam and Stella (Larimore) Urish, she married Robert Dale Collins on October 29, 1952 in New London, Missouri. He died November 18, 2005 in Pekin.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert R. Gent, one step-daughter, Sharon Jaycox, and six brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Joy (Michael) Walker of Peoria, one son, Jack (Leslie) Dunker of Denver, Colorado, two step-sons, Bobbie (Pat) Collins of Kansas City, Missouri and Dean Collins of Phoenix, Arizona.

Evelyn had worked for Soldweldel's Dairy in Pekin for 29 years. She had also worked for Pekin Hospital for 9 years, where she had worked as a cook and night manager in the snack bar. She retired in 1979.

Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Frances E. (Urish) Lamps

1918-1993

Mrs. Frances E. Lamps, 75, of rural Mendota, died Sunday morning, Sept. 12, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Peru.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru with the Rev. Douglas Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Lamps was born April 1, 1918, in Pekin, to Ivan and Florence (Hundt) Urish. She married Everett Lamps on Aug. 31, 1940. She was employed as an elementary school teacher for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Bruce and Brian, both of Peru, and Craig of Dimmick; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Edith) Sawyer of Dallas, Texas; and two brothers, Dean Urish of Freeport and Everett Urish of Stoughton, Wis.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorials may be directed to the Crippled Children's Fund of the Mendota Elks or the donor's choice.

Boilermaker 3/c U.S. Navy, World War II-Seaman Urish was killed in action on 7-24-1945 while serving as a Boilermaker 3/c on the Destroyer USS Underhill, {DE-682}, in the waters off the Philippines. The USS Underhill was a Buckley-Class Destroyer that was built in Quincy, Massachusetts. This ship was sunk by an one-man Midget Japanese Sub called a "Kaiten" that was used for suicide missions. There were 300 of these subs built, and 100 were used. The USS Underhill sunk in minutes with the loss of 112 sailors, and there were 122 sailors that survived.

He is the son {d.1982} of Mr. Harry & Mrs. Anna J. {Jibben} Urish {d.1996} of 1031 of Creve Coeur Avenue in Creve Coeur, Illinois, and was a 1942 graduate of Green Valley H.S. in Green Valley, Illinois. He was working at Corn Products Co. in Pekin, Illinois, and then went to work in Vancouver at the Kaiser Shipyards, and was in the Navy by June of 1943.

Besides his parents, he leaves one younger brother, Lyman Eugene, 16, at home. (He was a Korean Veteran who died in 1978.)

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal with Four Battle Stars, Navy Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal.

Fannie Urish

Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Nafziger Urish, 92, of Mt. Sterling, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.

She was born Aug. 18, 1923, near Hopedale, the daughter of Daniel Benjamin and Eva Sutter Nafziger.

She married Edgar Urish on May 29, 1943, in Barstow, Calif. He survives.

Survivors also include five children, Dana Briggs of Mt. Sterling, Paul (Gail) of Lorette, Manitoba, Joe of St. Louis, Mo., Joan (Rick) Dombrowski of Plainfield and Jeff (Jennifer) of Creve Coeur, Mo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Nafziger of Tremont and Tim (sic, s/b Jim) Nafziger of Glen Ellyn; and two sisters, Irene Frakes of Aledo, Texas, and Ruth Nafziger of Hesston, Kans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Vietta Hefner and Mary Livesay; two brothers, Delmar and Herb Nafziger; and a grandson, Troy Lee Briggs.

She and her husband moved to rural Brown County in 1952. Fannie was an active farm wife and also worked a number of off the farm jobs during her lifetime, and was the custodian of South Grade School from 1980 - 1989.

Mrs. Urish was a member of the Mennonite Church of Hopedale, and faithfully attended the First Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the First Baptist Church and the Siloam Springs and Brown County Home Bureau.

Funeral services for Mrs. Urish were held Monday, May 9, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Aaron Foster officiating.

Graveside services were held at Monday afternoon, May 9, in the Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley.

The Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling was in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling or the Brown County Public Library.
