Capt. Melvin David Munsinger, USN Ret. passed away peacefully on March 29, 2012. He was born in Los Molinos CA on December 17, 1935.

Mel is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Hines) of 56 years; his sister, Janet Dalrymple, and brother, Harry Munsinger; his daughters, Carrie and her husband, Scott Essen, Kimberly and her husband, Andrew Bolden; five grandchildren, Rachelle Munsinger, Melissa Ramirez, Mary and Sara Vann, James Bolden; and two great-grandsons, Tyson and Bentley.

Mel graduated from Chico High School in 1954 and Chico State University with a BA in 1958. He also attended War College in 1970 and received his Master's degree at George Washington University.

Mel entered the US Navy in September 1958. He spent 30 years as a highly decorated naval aviator and retired at the rank of Captain. His last tour duty was as Commanding Officer of the aircraft carrier, USS Constellation in 1987.

His hobbies included fishing, gardening, and woodworking, home remodeling and enjoying his family. Mel was the epitome of integrity. He was a wonderful devoted husband and father and believed in honesty and giving to his country.
