John V. Reid, about 50, of 502 W. Huisache ave., a real estate broker, shot himself to death at San Pedro and Magnolia aves. shortly before noon Wednesday.

H. L. Weatherford, owner of a service station at 2200 San Pedro, told police he saw Reid drive up to the corner and get out of his auto, clad only in blue shorts.

SAT ON CURB

Reid then reached back into the car and obtained a 12-gauge shotgun, according to Weatherford, who said he seemed to stagger and sat down on the curb.

The filling station operator reported Reid leaned the muzzle of the shotgun against his right temple and pulled the trigger.
