On Dec 28,1835, in Franklin County, Virginia, David Garst married Mary Overfelt. Mary Overfelt birth and death is not known. On July 25, 1841, David married for the second time to Anna Bashor. Anna was born May 4, 1808 and died May 29, 1895 near Johnson City, Tennessee at the age of 87 years 25 days. Mrs. McConnell is well known in Wichita, especially in church circles. For a number of years she has been a successful leader in various church activities among the children.

Mother of Three Brothers Who Trained Together in Air Corps Dies at 58

ONE SON WAS KILLED

Mrs. Anna Mary McConnell, 58, mother of the three McConnell brothers who enlisted in the United States army air corps at the same time, trained together and fought together in the South Pacific, died Sunday in a local hospital after a short illness. She resided at 246 North Martinson.

The three sons are Lieut. Fred J. McConnell, Lieut. Edwin M. McConnell and Lieut. Thomas McConnell, who was killed in action last July.

Mrs. McConnell was born in Jonesbury (sic), Tenn., December 16, 1885. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Surviving, besides her two sons in the service, are two sons, Wyman L. and Dwight, both of Los Angeles; four daughters, Mrs. M. L. Harris, residing in Arizona, Mrs. Lester Pickover, 236 South Florence, Miss Faye McConnell and Mrs. Ruth Foster, Pasadena, Cal.; two sisters, Miss Julia Garst, 246 North Martinson, and Mrs. Pearl Herrmann, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Paul C. Garst, Pratt, T.C. Garst, Jr., 1902 West Douglas, and Jess Garst, Route 8, Wichita.

Funeral services will be held in the Downing mortuary at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland cemetery.

Pratt, Kan. — Anna Louise Garst died April 21, 2010, at Reflections Memory Care at Parkwood Village. She was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Herington to Anna Thompson and Samuel Preston Cunningham. Soon after her birth, her mother died and she came to Pratt to live with her aunt and uncle.

Ann married Paul Garst Jr. in 1948. He served as Pratt's police chief for 29 years. Ann was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO and served the community with the hospital auxiliary. She had a wonderful sense of style, many lifelong friends and she loved to laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and brothers, Paul D. and Robert M. Cunningham.

She is survived by a son, Greg (Sandra) of Noble, La., a daughter, Bari, Wichita; a brother, James Cunningham, Belton, Mo.; four nephews; two great-nephews and three great-nieces.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. Friends may sign the book from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.

The family suggests memorials to Pratt Parks, Pratt Public Library or South Wind Hospice, in care of the mortuary
