Norma Ann Gillies, 81, a retired nurse and resident of Havre, died Tuesday May 19, 1998, at a hospital of complications due to cancer.

Prayer vigil services will be 7 pm. Thursday at the Holland & Bonine Chapel in Havre. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Calvary cmetery.

Gillies was born Jan. 18, 1917, near Glasgow to Aquilla (Marsh) and Normal Boozel. She was raised in Great Falls and attended school there. She graduated from Great Falls High School and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation she moved to Havre and was employed by Dr. Houtz for approximately five years.

On Oct. 25, 1941, she married Clifford E. Gillies in Havre. The couple owned and operated the Model Grocery store in Havre in the early 1950s. She was a nurse at the Havre Clinic for 25 years until her retirement.

Gillies enjoyed her family and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Northern Montana Health Care Volunteers, St. Jude Catholic Church, and St. Cabrini's Circle. Her hobbies were painting, crafts, writing, walking and playing pinochle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford E. Gillies in 1989; and brother, Dale Boozel. She is survived by two sons, Gary Gillies of Havre, and Jerry Gillies of Kalispell; a daugther, Joyce Perszyk of Havre; two sisters, Shirley Zablinsky of Escondido, Calif. and Pearl Pyatt of Helena; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was buried in May 1998 in Calvary Cemetery, Havre, Hill Co., MT, Findagrave #116003375.

Clifford E. Gillies, 74, died of natural causes at a Havre hospital early Sunday. A rosary service will be held Tuesday evening at Holland & Bonine Chapel at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. At St. Jude's Catholic church.

Mr. Gillies was born in Huron, S.D., July 7, 1915, to Clinton Gillies and Ann Cota. He attended schools in Huron and later in Fargo, N.D. He graduated from Fargo Business College and began working for the Nash Finch Company.

As credit manager for Nash Finch Company, he moved to Havre in 1938, where he met and married Norma Boozel, Oct 25, 1941. The family recently celebrated the couple's 48th wedding anniversary.

He and Norma purchased and ran the Model Grocery for a number of years in Havre prior to his working for the Havre Post Office. He was well-remembered by the community as the post office civil service examiner and window clerk. He retired from federal service in 1977 after 22 years.

An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Jude's Parish, a troop leader of St. Jude's Boy Scouts and was active in the Havre Central Round Table for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Gillies of Havre; sons, Gary Gillies of Havre and Jerry Gillies of Kalispell; a daughter, Joyce Perszyk, also of Havre; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Gillies was preceded in death by both his parents.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's School Trust Fund or to one's choice.

He was buried in November 1989 in Calvary Cemetery, Havre, Hill Co., MT, Findagrave #116003300.
