Ruth I. (McKay) Halley, 93, Kokomo, passed away at 4:06 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Fairmont Rehabilitation Center. Ruth was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Vevay, to the late Elmer E. and Edith M. (Smith) McKay. Her marriage to William J. Halley, who preceded her in death, was on June 5, 1954, in Kokomo.

She worked at Reliance for four years, The Globe, was manager of Heaton’s Restaurant, Montgomery Ward and sold Avon Cosmetics for 32 years. She was a member of the Eagles No. 255, the Senior Citizen Club and a life member of Calvary Baptist Church. Ruth also loved to crochet, read, and work word search and crossword puzzles. Her children and her home meant the world to her.

Survivors are two daughters, Linda Henry and husband James, Kokomo, and Ruthann Bates, Kokomo; two sons, Jack Loveland and wife Bev, Kokomo, and John Halley and wife Marilyn, Kokomo; a sister, Mary Barnes, Washington State; six grandchildren, Nancy Dunbar, Cindy Russell, Steven Dance, Artie Loveland, Michael Henry and Barbra Pardue; a step-grandson, Randy Morris; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchil

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. Halley; four brothers; one sister; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, with Pastor Stephen Beutler officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Walter C. King

Walter C. King, 53, of 221 E. Kingman Ave., a retired Army master sergeant, died Saturday in the Great Lakes Naval Hospital at Waukegan, Ill., where he had been a paitient since Aug. 6. He had been ill two years.

Born in St. Joseph, Mo., he entered the Army in 1941. He was captured by the Japanese, was on the Bataan death march and was a prisoner of war for many months. He received many medals and the Presidential Unit Citation. After his military retirement, he was employed by the Job Corps, and was employed at the time of his death by the Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corp. of Kalamazoo.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and Post 175 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his widow, the former Lillian Simpson; sons, Walter C. King Jr. of 685 E. Michiigan Ave., and Kenneth R. of 221 E. Kingman Ave.; brothers, Clarence King of Seattle, Wash., and John of El Paso, Tex.; sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Betty) Arnold of El Paso, Tex., and Mrs. James (Ollie) Williams of Alaska, and one grandson.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hebble Funeral Home.

Walter "Wally" C. King, Jr., 55, of Buford, Georgia passed away Friday, June 22, 2007. He was born in Battle Creek on March 20, 1952, the son of Walter C. and Lillian L. (Simpson) King, Sr. Wally retired from the General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville, Georgia after 30 years of service and was a member of the UAW Local No. 10.

Wally is survived by his wife, Tammy Lynn King; daughters, Shannon King, and Nicole King; sons, Wally Whipple, and James King; a stepdaughter, Brandy Lawhead; a brother, Kenny King of Battle Creek; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter King Sr. and Lillian King.

Wally loved NASCAR racing; his favorite driver being Rusty Wallace. He also raced stock cars for many years at Galesburg Speedway. He loved hunting and fishing. Wally was able to fulfill his dream of retiring in the south, where he enjoyed his last years learning the "farm life" with his best friend, Gary Bagley. Wally was a down home, tell it like it is kind of man, who was dedicated to his family.

At the request of the family, they will receive friends 1:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the chapel at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Cosby, officiating.
