This is because her sister Cora, who actually was born about 1878, had married Lewis Hull in 1898 and was living at Gentry County as of the 1900 census. DLB 2020.

Biography

Chester Elden Nead was born on 3 May 1895 in Sheridan, Worth Co., MO, -- WW I and WW II draft registrations. On his SS application, Chester gave his grandfather's name as his father, and "Carrie" as his mother. As of WW II, he was living six miles southwest of Grant City, unmarried, and gave his brother in-law Lewis Hull as his "person who will always know where he is." It is unclear whether anyone knew who his biological father was, or where his father was born. No evidence that he ever married or had any children.1 He died on 29 December 1965.

He was buried in 1966 in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery, Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA, Findagrave #38878469.
Chester Elden Nead lived on 3 May 1910 in Union Twp., Worth Co., MO.1 He began military service WW I service, U.S. Army, PVT.

Note:

Chester Elden Nead was a grandson of Albert and Roena Nead, as listed on the 1910 census of their household, when he was living with them. But the Neads had only daughters, so he was an illegitimate son of one of the two younger daughters, as the older two daughters were already married and living out of state with their husbands and children as of the 1900 census. He himself gave "Carrie" as the name of his mother on his SS application, which would be Caria E. Nead who is listed living with her parents, age 22 (and was actually at least 24), as of the 1900 census. Caria married William Rumple in 1902 at Des Moines, Iowa, and lived there with him for the rest of her life, and Chester remained in Worth County, Missouri with her parents, and is listed on the 1910 and 1920 censuses in Worth County. One can only speculate why they didn't reveal Chester's presence in the household for the 1900 census.

Chester E. Need was living in an unidentified institution in Leavenworth County, Kansas in 1951 when a Kansas state census was taken. Judging from the rest of the list, it was a residence for elderly men in their 60s and 70s -- and according to the census instructions, it could not have been the federal prison at Leavenworth as convicts were to be excluded. I would suspect some retirement or medical institution for veterans, associated with Ft. Leavenworth. DLB 2020.
