Funeral services were held Monday, August 23rd in the Hinman Funeral Home for Minnie J. Nelson, who died of an apparent heart attack Friday, August 20th at the Saint Martin's Home for the Aged in Catonsville, Md. She was 100.
Born in Harborton, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Annie Scott Hoffman. Her late husband, George Nelson, died in 1942.
She was a housewife and a member of the Harborton Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Rutledge of Augusta, Ga.; a son, James R. Nelson of Glen Burnie, Md.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rev. Barry McCready officiated, interment was in the Asbury Cemetery.

Miss Elizabeth C. Gallagher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Gallagher, 200 East Randall street, was married last night to Mr. Wade H. Franklin at St. Mary's Star of the Sea, Church. Rev. Thomas J. Kenny performed the ceremony.
The bride wore white point lace over duchess satin and carried Bride roses. She was attended by Miss Lillie Shaw as bridesmaid, who wore chiffon over taffeta and carried carnations. The best man was Dr. M. A. Brennan. Little Misses Agnes Burns and Marie Gallagher were flower girls, and the ushers were Messers. E. W. Walker, John Burns, J. H. Rutledge, Harry Davis and William Bowman. A reception at the home followed, after which Mr. and Mrs. Franklin left for Atlantic City. They will live at 1733 Jefferson street.

Mrs. Elizabeth C. Franklin, nee Ga,lagher, Westminster road, Reisterstown, died in a Washington D.C., hospital on Saturday, March 13, after a short illness. Funeral services were held from the Newell funeral home, Pikesville, Monday, March 15, at 9:30 a. m. followed by a high mass of requiem in St. Charles' Catholic church, Pikesville, at 10 a. m. Burial was made in Druid Ridge cemetery, Pikesville. Mrs. Franklin had been spending the winter at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Elkins, Chevy Chase, Md., when she was suddenly taken ill. She was transported to a Washington hospital where she died a few days later. Besides her daughter, she is survived by two sons, Wade J. Franklin, U. S. Navy, New Orleans, La., and Howard Franklin, Pikesville.

A mass of the resurrection for Wade J. Franklin, the owner of a Pikesville tire firm, will be offered at 9 A M. today at St. Charles Church in Pikesville.
Mr. Franklin, who was 65 and had just moved to Finksburg from his home of many years in Reisterstown, died Friday at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center after a year's illness.
Owned firm since 1948
He had owned the Pikesville Tire and Supply Company since 1948 and earlier had operated several filling stations in the area. A native of Baltimore, Mr. Franklin moved to Pikesville as a child with his family.
He was decorated while a chief petty officer in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
A life member of both the Owings Mills and Reisterstown volunteer fire departments, he was a member of the Lt. Peter Zouck Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Owings Mills Post of the American Legion, the Towson Lodge of the Elks and the Fourth District Democratic Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Julia L. Eton; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Elkin of Pikesville, and a brother, J. Howard Franklin, of Pikesville.

Wade Joseph Franklin
Funeral services for Wade J. (Pat) Franklin, proprietor and owner of Pikesville Tire and Supply Company, were held Monday at the Newell Funeral Home, 1100 Reisterstown Road, in Pikesville with interment in Druid Ridge Cemetery.
Franklin, who was 65, died Friday following illness of about a year. He had planned to retire at the end of this year, and had recently moved into a new home in Finksburg, after having resided in Reisterstown for many years.
Born in Baltimore City, he attended schools there and later St. Charles Parochial School in Pikesville.
During World War II he served as Chief Petty Officer in the United States navy and possessed the following decorations: American Theatre, Asiatic - Pacific, Philippine Liberation, Victory Ribbon and 1 Bronze Star in American Theatre.

Overbrook — A celebration of life for Loretta J. Sutton, 95, Overbrook, is pending and will be announced by the family.
Mrs. Sutton died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at her home. She was cremated.
She was born Aug. 3, 1908, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Baber) Shaw.
Mrs. Sutton was a teacher in one-room school houses in rural Douglas County and was a member of the Clinton Historical Society.
Survivors include a son, William Sutton, Overbrook; a daughter, Jane Buttenhoff, Overbrook; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

ervices will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Bvld., for Luella Strong. Rev. Ron Sparks and the Kern County Veterans Association will officiate.
Luella Strong was born to Edward and Emma Shaw on November 28, 1909, in Smithville, Missouri. In 1920, the family moved to Lawrence, Kansas. All eight children graduated from Kanwaka Grade School and Liberty Memorial High School, the predecessor to Lawrence High School. Luella graduated in 1928 and then attended Kansas State University at Lawrence graduating in 1934.
Luella with three other recent graduates came to Kern County to work at Kern General Hospital treating the many families that had come to Kern County during the "dust bowl" years. Luella joined the Army Nurse Corps and served from 1940 -1941 stationed first at the Presidio in San Francisco and later as an officer stationed at Camp Haan in the San Bernardino area where she met Private Frank Strong.
Frank and Luella were married on November 12, 1941.
Luella returned to work for Kern County until retiring from the Health Department in 1970. Luella remained active in various organizations including retired Kern County Employees Association, Woman's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Ambassadors Military Affairs and CALM through November 2005.
Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Strong in 1974, her daughter, Patricia Caetano in 2000, her parents, Edward and Emma Shaw, her brother, Everett Shaw and her sisters, Opal Godlove, Loretta Sutton, Helen Stanley and Mabel McNess. Luella is survived by her son, Michael Strong and wife, Cathy of California City; brothers, Willard and Clifford Shaw of Kansas; granddaughter, Michelle Waddell and husband, Scott of Corona; grandsons, Jamie Farris and wife, Sandy, Brent Harris and wife, Kim, Kevin Harris, Gary Marsh and wife, Heidi, all of Bakersfield and 10 great-grandchildren. Willard B. Shaw, age 97 of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Topeka, KS, passed away early Saturday morning, December 22, 2012 at his home. He was one of eight children. Willard had moved to Lenoir City in September of 2008. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Willard was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was retired from Santa Fe Railroad and was a longtime farmer. He had been involved in the Kansas 4H program, the American Angus Association, the Soil Conservation Program, Super Chief Credit Union and the Primetime Retirement Club.
Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; parents, Edward and Emma L. Baber Shaw; and special friend, Lyla Sligar. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Joe Dunsmore of Lenoir City, Suzanne and Brent Thompson of Old Lyme, CT; five granddaughters: Laura, Rachel and Julia Dunsmore, Lian and Meredith Thompson; special Topeka neighbors, Dr. Mark Newth, Nina and Josh.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Amedysis Hospice Staff: Shelley, Wendy, Cindy, Greg, Martha and all other staff members who helped and sitter, Mary Crowley. Clifford L. Shaw, 93, died Thursday May 22, 2014. He was born Dec. 8 1920 to Edward E. Shaw and Emma Jane (Baber) Shaw. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School and later served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. Cliff owned and operated Shaw Auto Service for 34 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a licensed single-engine pilot for 20 years.
On Dec. 20, 1941 He married Theo M. Chapman to whom he was married 55 years. Theo preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 1997.
Survivors include a son Steve L. Shaw, Germany; two daughters, Beverly McDaniel, Leawood Ks, Connie Shaw, Jefferson City Mo; two grandchildren, Brian McDaniel and Shelly Searles and four great-grandchildren.
Cliff is preceded in death by his 7 siblings; Willard Shaw Topeka Ks, Everett Shaw Emporia Ks, Opal Godlove Ada Ks., Loretta Sutton Lawrence, Helen Stanley Kansas City, Mabel McNees Lawrence and Luella Strong Bakersfield, Calif.
A graveside memorial will be held Thursday May 29th, 10:00 am at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to Grace Hospice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

John Robert "Luke" Stanley, 63, Kansas City, Mo., were held Thursday at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Stanley died last Tuesday at a Kansas City hospital following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in Lawrence before returning to the Kansas City area in 1969.
Mr. Stanley had been district sales manager for Kilgore Plumbing Co. since 1969. He owned the Stanley Pontiac-Cadillac dealership in Lawrence from 1958 to 1965.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a member of the Elks Lodge, both in Kansas City, Mo.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Dwight Cowles post of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Helen L. Stanley, Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Dan Stanley, Lawrence, and Tim Stanley and Dennis Stanley, both of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Bridget Loosen and Cathy Mulcahy, Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Aileen Stanley, Roach, Mo., and Betty Stanley, Fredonia; and eight grandchildren.
