Fletcher Mountain
Fletcher W. (Rocky) Mountain, Indianapolis, died Thursday in Midland House. He was area manager for Aetna Insurance Co., retiring in 1977. Born at Kansas City, Mo., he lived here 13 years and was a member of Christian Science Reader and First Church of Christ, Scientist. Survivors include his wife, Irene Mountain, and a son, Dan Mountain. There will be no services or calling. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Adventures Unlimited or Midland House. Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Invitations have been sent out by Charles Henry Lewis for the coming wedding of his daughter, Miss Virginia Washington Lewis to Earl Samuel Fitz.
The wedding will take place on September 14th, at 5 o'clock, at "The Moorings," in Jefferson County, West Virginia.
Miss Lewis is well known in Hanover, having been a frequent visitor at the home of Miss Nellie Fitz. She is the great granddaughter of the former Rear Admiral Lewis.
Mr. Fitz is the son of the late Jacob Fitz and the nephew of Mrs. John Fitz and C. E. Moul, of this place. He is employed at the Hanover Wire Cloth Company.

Earl Samuel Fitz, youngest son of the late John (sic) Fitz, of this place, and Miss Virginia Lewis, of "The Moorings," near Charleston, W. Va., were married at the home of the bride Tuesday evening, September 14.
Among those present at the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. Ervin M. Fitz, of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. John E. Meisenhelder, Misses Nellie and Lucy Fitz and Leslie Kriner, of this place.
After a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Fitz will be at home at No. 317 Abbottstown street.

THE MOORINGS, the home of Charles H. Lewis, was the scene of an attractive wedding on Tuesday last, when his daughter, Miss Virginia Washington Lewis, became the bride of Mr. Earl S. Fitz, of Hanover, Pennsylvania.
The bride was beautifully attired in white crepe de chine and carried a shower bouquet of Bride roses and lilies of the valley. The maid of honor, miss Ann Catherine Lewis, sister of the bride, wore green crepe de chine and carried pink roses. Mr. Howard Leslie Kriner, Chambersburg, Pa., was best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Arthur M. Lewis, uncle of the bride, assisted by the Rev. R. C. Cowling, of Wickliffe, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Fitz will make their home in Hanover, Pa.

Both Roy and Elizabeth had a previous marriage and divorce, per their marriage license application. Elizabeth actually appears to have been his fourth wife. Roy's first wife was Lottie Lorene Ramsey, married 3 DEC 1937, Franklin Co., VA. They were divorced in 1943, Polk County, Florida (Ancestry.com). His second wife was Ruby Elizabeth Marion, married 1 MAR 1944, Polk Co., FL, and divorced later that same year, per Florida marriage and divorce indices (Ancestry.com). His third wife appears to have been a Joan C. Spencer, married 21 NOV 1946 at Jackson Co., MO, license #1946B0009071 (Ancestry.com). No other record of this Joan C. Spencer/Bixby found.
It appears that Roy and Elizabeth were separated by 1973, per their son David's obituary.

Elizabeth Bixby, New Oxford
Elizabeth Fitz Bixby, 84, of 110 Lincoln Way West, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Hanover Hospital.
Born in Hanover July 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Earl Samuel and Virginia Washington Lewis Fitz.
She was retired from the Danskin Co., in York and was a member of Emmanual United Church of Christ and the New Oxford Antique Association.
Surviving are daughters Virginia F. Bixby of La Jolla, Ca. and Sarah E. Puckett of Hanover; sons Charles A. Bixby of Parker, Colo. and Robert L. Bixby of Hanover; four grandchildren and sister Caroline Fitz John of Hanover.
She was preceded in death by a son, David A. Bixby.
The service will be held Thursday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover with the Rev. Kenneth S. Heasley officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover.

HANOVER Caroline Moul Fitz John, 95, of Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Born in Hanover, on April 23, 1919, Caroline was the daughter of the late Earl Samuel Fitz and Virginia Washington Lewis Fitz. She was the wife of Adolph E. John, her husband of 22 years, who predeceased her on December 5, 2009. She was also predeceased by a brother, Earl Samuel Fitz, Jr., and sisters, Ann Fitz Lesley and Elizabeth Fitz Bixby. Caroline was a graduate of Eichelberger High School class of 1937 and received the prestigious Oak Leaf Award, which represents strength of character, leadership, and dependability. A graduate of Wilson College, Chambersburg, in 1941, she majored in German and then went on to receive a Masters Degree in Library Science from Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University), Philadelphia, in 1942. Caroline's career as a librarian covered many types of libraries: school, county, federal, and public. Her earliest position was as an apprentice in the Hanover Public Library, a position she continued throughout her high school and college years. Her mentor was library director Mabel C. Wolcott. Upon graduation from Drexel Institute, Caroline remained at the college as assistant cataloger. For a short period, she served at the Louisville Public Library (Louisville, Ohio) which was housed in the Louisville High School serving both the school and the public. Then she went on to become assistant director of the Geauga County Library in Chardon, Ohio, and director of the Receiving Station Library at Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Va. Most of her career was spent on Long Island, N.Y., in the Valley Stream Public Library (1951-1967) and Amityville Public Library (1967-1983). As director of each library she was instrumental in the construction of a new library building and in the expansion of extensive book collections for reference and pleasure reading. She was the first professional librarian certified by the State of New York of the Amityville Public Library from which she retired in 1983. After retiring from her library career, Caroline married Adolph E. John of Valley Stream, N.Y., and in 1987 returned to her hometown of Hanover, where she continued to live for nearly 30 years. Caroline was a member of the American Library Association as well as the New York State and Nassau and Suffolk County Library Associations. She was a member of Zonta International, a service organization for executive and professional women, for more than 50 years. She held many offices in the organization on the local and district level one term as president of the Long Island chapter (1965-1967), two terms as treasurer, one as lieutenant governor, and one term (1980-1982) as Governor of District III covering the east coast from New York to South Carolina. She was also a member of the Mary P. Myton Literary Society of Amityville and the Community Club of Garden City, N.Y. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Library Science. A lifelong member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover, Caroline served on the Consistory as deacon and elder for about 10 years. She was a member of the National AARP and more than a 50-year member of the Col. Richard McCalister Chapter DAR serving about 10 years as secretary. She was also a member of the Hanover Area Historical Society. During her lifetime Caroline enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., including Hawaii. She also visited England, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. She was an avid reader and seamstress and also enjoyed playing bridge, making silver jewelry, photography, and knitting. Caroline is survived by nephews and nieces including Rob and Deb Bixby of Hanover, Andy and Louise Bixby of Colorado, Susan Lesley and Mark Mieritz of Wisconsin, and Sam and Beth Lesley of Arizona; and close friends, Barb and Don Horneff of Hanover. As per Caroline's wishes, a private service will be held.
