IDA GROVE, Iowa -- William C. Maas, 33, of Ida Grove, died Tuesday of injuries he suffered in an accident at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Ida Grove. The Rev. Harry Dailey will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rosary will be recited by the parish at 8 p.m today in the Christensen Funeral Home.
Mr. Maas was born April 9, 1947, at Hayfield, Minn. He lived in Brownsdale, Minn., and came to Ida Grove 16 years ago.
He married Karen Sue Wilson July 8, 1967 at Ida Grove.
Survivors include the widow; three sons, Darin, Kevin and Lee, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Maas of Mesa, Ariz.; four brothers, Darrell of Brownsdale, John and Tom, both of Austin, Minn., and Richard of Rochester, Minn.; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Margaret) Laverink of Austin and Miss Mary Maas of Mesa.

Darin J. Maas, 48, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Darin J. Maas, the son of William and Karen (Wilson) Maas, was born on Sept. 18, 1968, in Battle Creek, Iowa. He attended high school in Ida Grove, Iowa.
On May 15, 1993, Darin was united in marriage with Terri Mitchell in Schleswig, Iowa. He worked as a concrete layer for various companies.
Darin is survived by three children, Ethan Maas, Kira Maas, and Lane Maas; his mother, Karen (Gerald) Meister; his former wife, Terri; two brothers, Kevin Maas and Lee (Michelle) Maas, all of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his father.

Harold L. McCollum, 99, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his home at Lodge of Ashworth.
Harold was born February 11, 1917 in Bethany, Missouri to R.V. and Della McCollum. He lived in Leon, Sigourney and Oskaloosa before moving to Des Moines in 1927. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1933 and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa in 1937 with a degree in Actuarial Science.
In 1939, he married Margaret Kampmeier and together they reared two daughters and two sons.
Harold began his career in 1937 with Acacia Mutual Life in Washington, DC. In 1942, he moved to Iowa Life (now Farm Bureau) in Des Moines where he remained as actuary until 1949, except for a brief period in the U.S. Navy. In 1949, he was appointed actuary with National Travelers Insurance Company to help start that casualty company in the life insurance business. In 1958, a consolidation with National Life Company created National Travelers Life, for which he worked until his retirement in 1980 serving as Actuary, VP and Actuary and Senior VP and Actuary.
Harold played tennis for over 80 years. He earned tennis letters at Roosevelt and the University of Iowa. He won many singles and doubles titles over the years including Des Moines District singles in 1951 and 1953 and Missouri Valley men’s 55 and over doubles in 1972 and 1974. In 1974, he was one of ten charter members of the Iowa Tennis Association Hall of Fame. Because of service as a board member or officer of Des Moines, Iowa, Missouri Valley and National tennis organizations, he was given the U.S. Tennis Association’s Community Service Award in 1988. Margaret and Harold won multiple mixed doubles titles at the National Senior Olympic Games. Following Margaret’s death in 2006, the D.M. Tennis Association and the D.M. Parks Department collaborated in re-naming the McCollum-Waveland Tennis Complex to honor their life-long love of, and service to, the game of tennis.
Survivors include his children, Laura (Al) Baetz, Tom (Kay), Carol (Rod) Faino and Gordon (Lynn); eleven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his good friend, Eleanor Noel.
His wife, Margaret, parents and brother, James, preceded him in death.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Harold donated his body to the University of Iowa Medical School.

Margaret Kampmeier McCollum, 89, died of leukemia Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Hospice of Central Iowa, as i Kavanagh on 56th St.
The memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Westminster Presbyte-rian Church. Margaret donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School.
Margaret was born October 30, 1916 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to August and Ada Kampmeier. She attended public schools and Coe College before graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa.
She worked in the actuarial department of Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company in Washington, DC from 1937-40.
In 1939, she married Harold L. McCollum and together they reared two daughters and two sons.
Margaret served as president of the Community Blood Bank of Central Iowa, Polk County Easter Seal Society, Des Moines Council of PTA, Des Moines American Association of University Women, and YWCA. She participated on the state boards of PTA, AAUW, League of Women Voters, and Iowa Mothers and the national boards of AAUW and American Mothers, Inc. Margaret has been a leader in United Way, Women's Board of National Conference of Christians and Jews, National Junior Tennis League and helped to organize the Volunteer Bureau, Blood Bank Auxiliary, YWCA's Childcare Center, and "First Call for Help." She was an Elder for Westminster Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the Friendship Force, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and Iowa Senior Games. She was honored by the Jayceettes as Outstanding Woman of the Year and by the YWCA as a Woman of Achievement. She was selected to be the 1967 University of Iowa Representative Mother of the Year. In 1971, the Iowa Mothers Association chose Margaret as the Iowa Mother of the Year. She earned USTA national tennis rankings in her 80's and was elected to the Iowa Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003. She was inducted into the Iowa Senior Olympics Hall of Fame in 2006.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Laura (AI) Baetz and Carol (Rod) Faino; two sons, Tom (Kay) and Gordon (Lynn); eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
Her parents, sister, two brothers, and two sisters-in-law preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Central Iowa, or the Greater Des Moines Tennis Association.
Margaret cherished her family and friends, played tennis through, 89, volunteered whenever asked, and wrote a family letter for more than 60 years. All who knew her will remember her warm smile and kind words.
