Born Dorothy Peterson on March 18, 1917, in Brownsdale, she attended Brownsdale Elementary and Austin High School. On June 13, 1936, she married Clarence Maas in Claremont. Mrs. Maas was a retired homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. Mr. Maas died in 1968.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret (Mrs. John) Loverink of Austin and Mary (Mrs. Robert) Keske of Hayfield; three sons, John ``Mack'' Maas and Thomas Maas, both of Austin, and Richard Maas of Rochester; 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a sister and a brother.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Brownsdale, with the Rev. Paul C. Evers officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Ida Grove Pioneer, 6 August 1913, page 4: A complication of heart and liver trouble caused the death of John J. Higgins in this city Thursday afternoon of last week as an autopsy held Friday forenoon by the family physician ascertained.

John Julius Higgins was the second oldest child to be born to Julius C. Higgins and wife, both of whom preceded him in death a number of years ago. He was born in Scott County, Iowa, June 11, 1865, and had passed on his 48th birthday at the time of his death. The parents came to Ida County when he was 4 years of age locating in Galva Twp., and a few years later moved to Ida Grove which has continued to be his home almost continuously ever since.

He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Cole in this city 23 years ago and to this union nine children have been born, eight of whom survive, one son and seven daughters: Clyde of Sioux City, Ila, Helen, Neva, Bernice, Agnes, Valda, and Aradene, all of whom were at home at the time of the father's death. Funeral services were held from the home Friday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Todd of the M.E. Church presiding, and the remains were laid to rest beside the graves of the parents in the local cemetery. The widow, who is left as sole provider and guardian of the children, has the sympathy of the entire community in her bereavement. The deceased also leaves three sisters to mourn his death: Mrs. John Belts of Cherokee County, Mrs. A.E. Flater and Mrs. O.S. Cole, both of Ida County.

Pneumonia as a final stage of illness after a long sickness with diabetes caused the death on Monday, August 27, of Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Cole Higgins, a resident of Ida Grove for most of the time during the last 47 years. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Ida Grove Wednesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. G.D. Dunn. Burial was made in the Ida Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Higgins was born June 19, 1870, at Lake City, Iowa, and lived to the age of 64 years, 2 months and 8 days. She lived at Lake City until she was 17 years old. After the family moved to Ida Grove, she was married to John Julius Higgins, who preceded her in death nearly twenty years.

Mrs. Higgins went to live with her daughters at Hayward, Minnesota, four years ago, but returned on June 23 of this year. Two sons and seven daughters were born of this marriage. One son died at the age of six months and the other son, Clyde Julius, died four years ago. The following daughters survive their mother: Mrs. Charles Brown of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and Mrs. Frank Bogenrief of Hayward, Minnesota; Mrs. Dewey Burns of Ida Grove; Mrs. Charles Grapevine of Storden, Minnesota; Mrs. Clarence Wilson of Ida Grove; Mrs. Edgar Norton of Falls City, Nebraska; Mrs. John Loverink of Hayward, Minnesota. There are fourteen grandchildren.

Anna Miriam Davis [ “W” = Weatherby ] Fravel was the daughter of Charles E. Davis and Amy Pope Jones Davis. Her given middle name was "Miriam" named for her maternal grandmother, Miriam Pope. The “M” was replaced with the initial “W” after her marriage and widowhood to Thomas Weatherby and subsequent marriage to William J. Fravel.

She was a member via her husband William J Fravel of the Friends Meeting in Woodstown and their erroneous burial records were mixed up on her name, husbands name and cause and date of death and burial dates. Thankfully Anna has a Pennsylvania Death Certificate # 109680. Cause of death was due to a fall down a step, a fractured hip and then a heart attack. Burial was on the 12th of December 1953.

Anna was first married on 2 December 1879 to Thomas Weatherby (1857-1884). A daughter, Amy Dorothy Weatherby was her only child, from this marriage. Anna remarried on 25 December 1895 to William J. Fravel. They parted by 1920 with Anna staying in Philadelphia and working as a private duty nurse for various Quaker families. Husband, William J. Fravel went back to Woodstown, Salem Co., New Jersey to live.

Anna resided in the Stapley Friends -Quaker home in Philadelphia until her fall in October 1953 then her death in the Conners Nursing Home on December 8, 1953.

She was buried in December 1953 in Woodstown Friends Burial Ground, Woodstown, Salem Co., NJ, Findagrave #159878423.
