Mary K. Nickel, age 104, of Covington passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Brookdale of Piqua. She was born on November 5, 1913 in New Carlisle to the late John Franklin and Calla Etta (Cost) Weaver.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Charles E. and Kay Nickel of Covington; half-brother: Dale Weaver of New Carlisle; half-sisters: Nancy Weaver and Lou Ann Weaver both of New Carlisle; nine grandchildren: Lisa and Craig Niemann of Virginia, Veronica and Kevin French of Piqua, Kevin Nickel of Russells Point, Jason Nickel of Piqua, Mary and Kraig Peters of Bradford, Peggy and Luke Basham of Ansonia, Linda Mead of Pleasant Hill; Rhonda Burgess of Sidney and Karen and Mike Longstreth of Dayton; twelve great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Henry M. Nickel; daughters: Virginia Green and Kay Mead; son: Kenneth Nickel; brothers: John “Pete” Weaver and Howard “Jim” Weaver; sisters: Irene Davey and Una Godfrey and eight half siblings.
Mary was a 1933 graduate of New Carlisle High School. She was a longtime member of Covington Christian Church; Covington-Newberry Township Historical Society; Alpha Garden Club; Brukner Herb Club and the former Pierian book club. She was retired from Century Electric, Gettysburg.
Services will be held 10:30AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Covington Christian Church with Pastor Nick Church officiating. Interment will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00PM on Tuesday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to Covington-Newberry Township Historical Society, Covington Outreach or Covington Christian Church.

Henry Nickel - COVINGTON - Henry Nickel, 67, Covington, died Friday at 12:05 p.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health about six months. He was born in Greenup, Kentucky, December 12, 1912, a son of John Edward & Magdaline Crum Nickel. He had lived in Covington since 1931. He was married to Mary Katherine Weaver October 21, 1940 at Newport, Kentucky. Mr. Nickel was retired from Hobart Brothers Company in Troy. He is survived by his wife & four children, Mrs. James L. Green (Virginia) of Severna Park, Maryland, Charles E. Nickel & Mrs Ronald E. Mead (Kay) both of Covington, & Kenneth L. Nickel of Piqua; nine grandchildren; a half brother, John Edward Burton of Radcliffe, Kentucky; & an aunt with whom he made his home in his early years, Mrs. W. T. Nickel (Dollie) of Grove City. He was preceded in death by three sisters & one brother. His sister, Mrs. John M. Romanick (Emma) of Troy; while calling at the Nickel residence Friday after her brother's death, became ill & was transported to Dettmer Hospital where she was dead on arrival. Services for Mr. Nickel will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Bridges Funeral Home, 160 N. High Street, Covington, conducted by the Rev. Irene T. Smith. Burial will be in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

June 25, 2009, Virginia "Ginnie" Green, 69, of Queenstown, died June 21 in Tennessee. Mrs. Green was born December 30, 1939, to Mary Nickel & the late Henry Nickel of Covington, Ohio. She graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio. She served three years as a lieutenant in the Air Force. On March 21, 1964, she married James Green & they resided in Whitehurst in Severna Park. In 1980 they moved to Queenstown. She served two years as a public health nurse in the Ann Arundal Count school system. She spent 40 years years as an occupationl health nurse & human resources specialist at Westinghouse & Northrop Grumman. Mrs. Green was active in the Kent Island Yacht Club & was the past president of the Kent Island Yacht Club Auxiliary. She was also a member of the American Legion, Jeff Davis Post #18. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kay Mead. The brightest spot in her life was the ability to act as a guiding factor in the growth & life of Glenn Iley & Jackie Iley Gallagher. She is survived by three grandchildren from that experience. Christopher Gallagher, Caitlin Iley & Gavin Iley. She is also survived by her mother, mary Nickel, her husband, James Green, two brothers, Ken & Charles Nickel of Ohio, & nieces & Nephews. James Louis Green of Queenstown, Maryland, died Wednesday October 5, 2016 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 75. Born on December 10, 1940 in Pontiac, Michigan he was the son of the late Lynn Green and Cora Lester. He was a graduate of Culver Stockton College in Missouri. Jim would serve in the Air Force as a 1st Lt. from 1962 -1966. While in the Air Force he would meet and marry the love of his life Virginia “Ginnie” Nickel. They would reside in Whitehurst in Severna Park, MD. Jim spent his career with Westinghouse & Northrop Grumman as a defense contract negotiator. In 1980 they moved to Queenstown, MD. Jim was a past commodore (1989) of the Kent Island Yacht Club, a member of the American Legion Post 18 in Queenstown, MD and the VFW 7464 in Grasonville, MD. Jim is survived by his brother Don Green & sister Maxine Croy. The bright spot on Jim and Ginnie’s lives was the ability to act as a guiding factor in the growth and life of Glen Iley and Jackie Iley Gallagher. Three grandchildren from that experience Christopher Gallagher, Catlin Iley & Gavin Iley. And his beloved “Mitzy”. He was predeceased by his wife Ginnie Green in 2009. On Tuesday October 11, 2016, a visitation will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD 21619 from 10am to 11am with a service immediately following. Interment will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Queenstown immediately following the service. Guests are welcome to join a time of fellowship and celebration of Jim's life at the Kent Island Yacht Club following the interment.
