Bellefontaine Woman Struck And Killed

Mrs. Elsie Thornton Corrigan, 72, of 304 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, sister of Mrs. Clara Wray of Urbana, was killed at 1:23 p.m. Thursday when struck by a semi-tractor truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The accident reportedly took place at the intersection of Main St. and Auburn Ave. in Bellefontaine while traffic lights were malfunctioning.

Mrs. Corrigan was born in Christiansburg on April 18, 1897, the daughter of Simon and Lily Mumford Cost.

Additional survivors are two sons, Ray and Emory of Sidney; one daughter, Mrs. Calvin Penley of Sugar Grove, Pa.; four other sisters, Mrs. Mabel Deal of Lena, Mrs. Ethel Thornton of Troy, Mrs. Alma Morris and Mrs. Esta Krauss, both of Springfield; two brothers, Archie and Sylvan Cost, both of Piqua; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

One son, Francis, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Richeson and Wickham Funeral Home in St. Paris. The Rev. Harry Manning will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. The casket will remain closed.

She was buried in September 1969 in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Paris, Champaign Co., OH, Findagrave #21977014.

John P. Cost

TROY – John P. Cost, 67, of Refugia (sic), Texas, a former Troy resident and brother to two Champaign County women died Friday in the Refugia (sic) Nursing Home. He was born in Miami County on Feb. 22, 1900, the son of Simon P. and Lillie Mumford Cost. He moved to Texas from Troy in 1956.

Hi wife, the former Alice Francis, died July 26, 1966.

He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Port Isabel, Texas.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin of Springfield and Ernest E. of Valley Mills, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Sharits of Refugia (sic) and Mrs. Mae Anderson of California; two brothers, Archie and Sylvan Cost, both of Piqua; six sisters, Mrs. Mabel Deal of Lena, Mrs. Ethel Thornton of St. Paris, Mrs. Clara Wray of Urbana, Mrs. Elsie Corrigan of Bellefontaine and Mrs. Alma Maurice and Mrs. Esta Krauss, both of Springfield; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His body was taken to the Deeter Funeral Home in Troy for services at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Casstown Cemetery.

He was buried in November 1967 in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Miami Co., OH, Findagrave #6297622.
