84, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Thursday June 4, 2009 at his home. He was born September 27, 1924 in Miami County, Ohio the so of the late John & Alice (Francis) Cost. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was the owner of Costelco Electric and was the first president of the Springfield Electric Association. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church, North Hampton, Ohio.

Mel is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joan; two sons, Jerry & Dora Cost and Jay & Denise Cost; two daughters, Elaine & Sam Cottrell and Marla Osborne; step children, Denise & Jim Shatto, Steven & Julie Dean; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; a sister, Mae & Juan Sudo; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Cost and a sister, Marie Sherrits (sic).

A gathering of family and friends will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday June 7, 2009 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Marcia Rummel officiating. Burial will follow in Casstown Cemetery.

He was buried in June 2009 in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Miami Co., OH, Findagrave #11765969.

Melvin Eugene Cost began military service on 26 December 1941 WW II service, U.S. Navy, enlisted, discharged 5 NOV 1945.
