Richard Dale Cost, 61, passed from this life on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. There will be no visitation. A funeral service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn’s Chapel in Des Moines. Graveside and committal services will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
Richard was born the son of Calvin Clinton and Margaret Ramsey Cost on January 23, 1947 in Dayton, OH. He graduated from the University of Southern California with his bachelors degree and was a constant supporter. He also graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, earning a master’s degree. Richard was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a captain with the United States Air Force for four years. On May 22, 1971, he married Ginger Rae Hansen in Omaha. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Douglas Scott, Bradley Clinton and Wendi Lea.
Richard had lived in El Segundo, Calif., Mountain Home, ID, Omaha, NE, Houston, TX and Newton, IA prior to moving to the Des Moines area four years ago. He was currently employed with Wells Fargo Financial as an Audit Project Leader with the Data Analysis Support Team. Richard was a member of the I.S.A.C.A. and a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Mountain Home, ID. He had offered his time and talent and was a part of building a home with Habitat for Humanity. When living in Newton he was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. In his spare time, Richard loved to play golf and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Ginger Cost of Des Moines; two sons, Douglas Cost of Fairbanks, AK and Bradley Cost of Des Moines, daughter, Wendi (Matt) Detlefsen of Manning, IA; two brothers, Kenneth (Marlene) Cost of Seattle, WA and Garrett (Jodie) Cost of Palmer, AK, brother-in-law Larry (Jeanne) Hansen and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to Kidney Cancer Association – 1988 Momentum Place, Chicago, IL 60689-5319.

Age 63 of New Carlisle, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton. Jerry was born in Springfield on September 13, 1951 to the (late) Melvin Cost and Evelyn (Bartley) Gallagher; was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam Era; had previously worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Plasco, Dayton; attended Wesleyan Evangelistic Church, Dayton; and enjoyed taking care of others, loved keeping cars shiny and clean, loved being with his grandchildren, and he loved baking. Jerry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dora D. ‘Babe’ Cost; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy & Joe Nelson of Beavercreek; three grandchildren, Brittany & husband, John Rowley, Stephanie & husband, Jacob Smith, Joseph Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Conner, Angel, & Naomi; brother and sister-in-law, Jay & Denise Cost of Springfield; two sisters Marla & Elaine; step-mother, Joan Cost of Springfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
