He attended the Union Country School and was a graduate of the Lanark High School with the Class of 1943. On Sept. 4, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Evelyn Piesen.
Richard farmed all of his life near Lanark. He loved serving the Lord. He was a member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Church board chairman and choir leader. His Bible was truly worn from constant reading.

Richard enjoyed talking with folks and learning about their lives. His many grandchildren have fond memories of him spending as much time as he could, entertaining them.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, at the Lanark Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll.
Memorials may be given in Evelyn's honor for the Lanark Church of the Brethren, Ogle County Hospice, and the Lanark Public Library.
Evelyn was born on Aug. 20, 1930, in Chicago, to Rev. Joseph Piesen and Anna Marie Schmidt Piesen. Anna died when Evelyn was 7 years old. She came with her Dad to live in Lanark when Joe met and married Elizabeth Zuck. They had one son, David.
She was baptized at the age of 8 due to her persistence in telling her parents that she wanted to do this. Evelyn attended and graduated from Lanark High School in 1948. After high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Zuck. Richard died in 2008. Their entire lives were spent farming and raising their six children.
Evelyn and Richard were dedicated to their church because of their love for the Lord.
Evelyn was very involved in music, both singing and as a pianist. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and through church for those in need. After their children were grown, Richard and Evelyn took up golf and came to love the game. They played on several courses.
Evelyn was held in high regard in the eyes of her family, with much love.
God will be taking good care of her until we meet again and then we'll be together forever.
She will be dearly missed by six children, Susan (Charlie) Winterton of Leaf River, Bob (Connie) Zuck of Lanark, Jim (Vickie) Zuck of Chadwick, Karen (Mike) Bushman of Lanark, David (Carolyn) Zuck of Dakota, and Michael (Connie) Zuck of Shannon; a sister-in-law, Carolee Zuck of Freeport; a brother, David Piesen of Cleveland, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Brian (Robin) Bookman, Sarah (Heath) Lessman, Laura Bookman, Cara (Craig) Huber, Jason Zuck, Jenny (Carl) Lyons, Ben Bushman, Joe Bushman, Josh (Angie) Zuck, Ryan Zuck, Heather Zuck, and Adam Zuck; 10 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a brother-in-law, Arnold Zuck; son-in-law, Bruce Bookman, and sister-in-law, Elaine Piesen.
Special, heartfelt gratitude to Ogle County Hospice for providing caring health services for our Mom since November. They furnished prompt, compassionate care to keep our Mom as comfortable as possible during each phase of events. Pastor Sgro and his family for always being there and ministering to Mom, but more importantly just being part of her family.
Also to Bev Macolusky and Pam Boughton for taking care of Mom during the days at home when she needed help. They cared for her as one of their own. And last but not least, we want to extend our gratitude to Mom's church family and friends, who were so important in her life.
