From Wanger, p. 697:

Mr. Arnold grew to manhood in Freedom Township, Carroll County, Illinois. Early in life he united with the Brethren, but soon left that fold for the "Church of God" and for many years was an active minister of that church of which he was a member until his death-- never faltering in his faith nor wavering in his hope of eternal life.

In 1882 he moved to Missouri, living there until 1900, when he settled in Lissie, Tex., where he spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. Arnold was a kind husband and father and a consistent believer and follower of Christ; a successful business man, honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen. For many years he was engaged in the mercantile business at Lissie. From a newspaper, clipping.

Twelve children, viz: Susan, William Wallace, Samuel Henry, Joseph S., Elizabeth Indiana, John Franklin, Ira Edward, Simon Elmer, Willis Leroy, Hannah Mary, Cora Adell, Charles Law.

ARNOLD, SIMON KLINE, ELIZABETH G CARROLL 02/10/1870 B/ 18 697.

Simon Arnold died on 14 February 1926 in Adams Co., IA,

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Adams County Free Press

Corning, Iowa

February 19, 1926

Simon Arnold, son of Daniel and Betty Arnold, was born April 2, 1810 at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Mt. Etna, Iowa. February 14, 1926, aged 85 years, 10 months, and 12 days. When a small babe his parents moved to Arnolds Grove, Illinois, living there until he was married to Elizabeth Cline, February 10, 1870. He and his companion then moved to Grundy county, Iowa, where they began housekeeping in a farm where they lived for 20 years and then moved to Pocahontas county, living there 10 years then in 1901 moved to Adams county settling in Mt. Etna where they have since resided.

Six children were born to this union, three having departed this life in early age. Webster, aged twelve, Mary aged three, and Alta aged five years. Two sons, Eldon and Walter, and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Clare Thomas, all of Mt. Etna and one son, Dorman, of Eldora, Iowa, are left to mourn the loss of their father.

His companion preceded him in death March 26, 1919. Mr. Arnold enlisted in the U. S. army in the spring of 1862 and served his country until the end of the Civil War. After serving his country faithfully through its conflict, he resolved to serve his Saviour and on Christmas day, 1865 he was baptized and united with the church of the Brethren and has since lived a consistent Christian life. He was chosen to the deacon's office in 1875. Brother Arnold was always faithful to his duties in the church always taking an optimistic view of the work, standing by it through discouraging as well as encouraging times. He has been a great counsellor, often proving himself of great service to his pastor giving good advice so often needed. For the past two years he has been unable to attend services yet his heart was in the Master's work doing his best both financially and spiritually to see God's work prosper. Brother Arnold will be greatly missed by his devoted children, by the church, and the surrounding community.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Church of the Brethren in Mt. Etna by the pastor, Rev. Harry K. Rogers. Interment in Mt. Etna Cemetery.

He was buried in February 1926 in Mount Etna Cemetery, Mount Etna, Adams Co., IA, Findagrave #40304409.

Biography

Amos Fenton Lowman was born on 10 September 1862 in Freedom Twp., Carroll Co., IL, headstone shows 1863, however (a) 1870 census shows age 8, and (b) contemporaneous newspaper obituary says 10 SEP 1862.1 He died on 16 February 1939

Obituary -- Register-Republic, Rockford, Illinois, Friday, 17 FEB 1939, p.9 (Genealogybank.com):

A. FENTON LOWMAN

Lanark, Feb. 17 -- A. Fenton Lowman, 76, life-long resident of this vicinity, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Evangelical Deaconess hospital, Freeport, following an illness of only a few hours. He was born Sept. 10, 1862, in Arnold's Grove, northwest of Lanark, and had spent most of his life on a farm near here. He moved to Lanark three years ago, making his home with a cousin, Mrs. Emma Puterbaugh. He was unmarried, and was the last of his family.

Arrangements for funeral services, which will be held in Lanark, are incomplete.

He was buried in February 1939 in Lanark City Cemetery, Lanark, Carroll Co., IL, Findagrave #73321029.

Note: The obituary of Amos F. Lowman says "he was the last of his family". This is not true. Amos' older sister Anna married Martin Shank in 1875 and relocated before 1880 to Dakota Territory where they are found in the 1880 census with their first child. Of the four children born to Anna and Amos Shank, three died without issue, but daughter Leta Belle Shank married Edgar J. Andrew in 1906 and they had three sons. Of their three sons, Dwight F. Andrew had two children, a son and a daughter, and it appears that Dwight's son Thomas (b.1936), at least, had children including a son Thomas born in 1970, and lived at Enid, Oklahoma. DLB 2019.
