Injured Orrtanna man dies

An Adams County man died Monday at York Hospital, following a four-wheeler crash Saturday.

Drew Bream, 28, succumbed to the injuries sustained at 12:29 p.m. after his four-wheeler crashed into a tree on his property along Mount Carmel Road in Orrtanna, according to a news release.

The cause of death was listed as "blunt force head trauma," while the manner of death was ruled "accidental," according to the release.

The release said the death was certified by Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley at York Hospital, and there will not be an autopsy. The obituary appears on Page A2 today.

Drew William Bream

Drew William Bream, 28, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the York Hospital as the result of an ATV accident.

Born July 18, 1989, Drew was the son of John William III and Beth Ann (Hallman) Bream.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Brea Lynn (Wallace) Bream, and his brother David John Bream and his wife Lindsey. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Ruth Jeanne Bream and Ruth M. Hallman; five aunts and uncles and their spouses; and 10 cousins.

Drew graduated from Gettysburg High School in 2008. He then worked for the family business, Bream Orchards, before serving in the U.S. Navy. Most recently, he worked for Pennington Tree Service. He was a member of Flohr's Evangelical Lutheran Church, McKnightstown.

Drew loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted and fished in many states across the country. He also loved animals, including his favorite dog Rocky.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Flohr's Evangelical Lutheran Church in McKnightstown. Family and friends will be received at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m., and following the service at the Cashtown Fire Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Drew's memory to the Adams County SPCA.

Military funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock for Lt. (jg) Delbert Lawrence Gideon. U. S. N.. who was killed in a plane crash on July 31, 1944, at Funa Futi, Ellice Islands, near Australia, and originally Interred there. Last week his body arrived in Gettysburg from the first boat shipment of World War II dead from the Pacific theater. Lt. (jg) Warren Brann. U. S. N. Ordnance Planning Officer, Philadelphia Naval Yards, accompanied the body to Gettysburg as the official escort.

Lt. Gideon is survived by his widow, the former Miss Sara Black, Baltimore street, Gettysburg: one son, his mother, one brother and six sisters. His brother, Harry E. Gideon, Ponca City, Okla., was present for the services.

Brief services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ralph R. Gresh, pastor of St. James Lutheran church, Gettysburg, at the Bender funeral home with graveside military rites and interment conducted at the National cemetery by the Albert J. Lentz post. No. 202, American Legion, Gettysburg. The pallbearers were Harry D. Ridinger, Willis Weikert, Paul Spangler, C. Leslie Fair. Jr., William G. Weaver and Wilbur Plank, all ex-service men. M. Sgt. Frederick was the son of the late Charles Frederick Rodgers and Pauline Katherine Weikert. He was the husband of Ruth Ann Swope Rodgers for 51 years.

Captain Rodgers graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1952 with a degree in civil engineering under the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corp (NROTC) scholarship program. In addition to his many academic accomplishments while attending Penn State, he played trumpet in the Penn State Concert Blue Band and served as president of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. Captain Rodgers received a masters degree in aeronautical engineering from The Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif.; a masters degree in political science from George Washington University; and a masters degree in international business in the Senior Officers Program at The Naval War College in Newport, R.I. During his 30-year career, Captain Rodgers held command in VS-32, and held the position of air boss on the carrier USS WASP. He held the position of commanding officer of the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) at NAS Lakehurst, N.J. and retired after serving at the Naval Air Systems Command in Washington, DC.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Paula R. Heffernan of Stafford, Va.; five sons, Gregory A. Rodgers of West Greenwich, R.I., D. Bradly Rodgers of Harrisburg, Ryan A. Charles E. Rohrbaugh, 74, Fairfield, died Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Warner Hospital where he had been admitted as a patient August 24.

He was a farmer in Freedom Twp. all of his life and was a member of Elias Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary A. Bowling, to whom he had been wed 53 years; seven children; George L. and Ellis B., both of Fairfield; Mrs. Wayne C. Arnold, Littlestown; Mrs, George W. Mrs. M. Agnes Fair, 71, wif of C. Leslie Fair Sr., 120 Steinwehr Ave., died Christmas after noon at 4:15 at the Warner Hopital, where she had been a patient. for one day. She had been in declining health for a number of years. A native of Adams County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Georgianna (Weikert) Rohrbaugh. She and her husband for many years operated the Fair tourist home on Steinwehr Ave.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and of the Ladies Bible Class of that church.

Surviving are her husband, to whom she had been wed 49 years; three children: Charles L. Fair Jr., 645 S. Washington St.; George C. Fair, Gettysburg R. 2, and Kenneth L. Fair, 824 Highland Ave.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was born February 10, 1919 in Adams County, the son of the late Charles L. and Mary Agnes Rohrbaugh Fair, Sr. Mr. Fair is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Joy Altemose Fair.

Mr. Fair was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. He was a 1938 graduate of Gettysburg High School. During World War II, Mr. Fair served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. Following the war he began a 38-year career with Metropolitan Edison Electric Company, first as a lineman and later as a crew chief, before retiring in 1979. Mr. Fair was a life member of the Gettysburg Moose, a member of Gettysburg VFW Post #15, and for 45 years was a member of the Good Samaritan Masonic Lodge in Gettysburg. Leslie enjoyed gardening, outside work and repairing things in his workshop.

She and classmate Geraldine (Francis) Imber were the last two survivors of the Gettysburg High School Class of 1939. She was buried in July 2023 in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams Co., PA, Findagrave #255979964.

Gen. John R. Harrison was born on 8 January 1775 in Dauphin Co., PA; son of Isaac and Sarah (?) Harrison. He married Rachel Rodgers, daughter of Richard Rodgers and Rachel Denny, on 15 June 1819 in Shippensburg, Cumberland Co., PA. Gen. John R. Harrison died on 28 February 1837 in Grantville, Dauphin Co., PA. He was buried in March 1837 in Old Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard, Grantville, Dauphin Co., PA, Findagrave #15843798.
