Mrs. Iva Q. Mills

Mrs. Iva Quinn Mills, 71, of 150 Galigher (sic) street died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9) at good Samaritan Hospital where she had been a patient two weeks.

She was born Aug. 4, 1896, in Bern Township, Athens County, a daughter of Daniel and Flora Roberts Brooks. She was married to Joseph Quinn in 1914 and later to Fred Mills.

Mrs. Mills was a member of Mount Hermon EUB Church.

She is survived by two sons by the first marriage, Ray Quinn of 1711 Chandlersville road and Dale Quinn of 150 Galligher street; seven grand children and 11 great-grand children; a brother, Albert Brooks of Glouster Route 3. A son, Max Quinn, and a brother, Everett Brooks, are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fawcett-Stone Funeral Home at Chesterhill with Rev. Merle Plotner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

HARRY ROBERTS

Harry Orlan Roberts, 72, of Bartlett, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Roberts, a Wesley Township Trustee in Washington County, was a coal miner for 20 years and retired from the Ohio Department of Highways.

He was born May 16, 1911, in Athens County, a son of Orlan and Ruth Robinson Roberts.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Brown Roberts; three sons, Robert Roberts of The Plains, Milton Roberts and David Roberts of Bartlett; two daughters; Mrs. Doris Hoskinson of Buckeye Lake and Mrs. Ruth Tatman of Columbus; one stepson, Darrell Carpenter of Chesterhill; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Norma Smith of Nelsonville, Mrs. Dora Nowell of Marietta, Mrs. Marian Wogan of Bartlett and Mrs. Sevilla Stantan of Orient; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Swisher of Cheshire, Mrs. Elsa Mae Rudolph of Puyallup, Wash., and Mrs. Betty Malone of Marietta; two brothers, Willard Roberts of Rialto, Calif., and Darrell Roberts of Malta; 18 grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Harley Bennett officiating.

Burial will be in Liberty U.B. Church Cemetery near Chesterhill.

Helen Swisher

Helen Irene Swisher, born in Athens County, Ohio, on Feb. 2, 1913, is the daughter of the late Orlan A. and Ruth Robinson Roberts, and the widow of Harold D. Swisher, who died in 1965.

She was a loving mother who extended her love down through the years to each one of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Surviving is one daughter, Maureen Wedemeyer, of Sun City, AZ; one son, Cloyce (Martha) Swisher, of Aberdeen, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mike (Jeannie) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Gail Chouinard of Maysville, Eric (Sharon) Swisher of Maysville, and Lori (Ken) Borowitz of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Christian DeBolt and Michael Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Kellie (Brian) Cracraft and Jamie (Keith) Gifford both from Mayslick, Allison and Erica Swisher of Maysville, Kortney, Nathan, and Kelsey Borowitz of Cincinnati; and five great-great-grandchildren, Breanna and Alyssa Cracraft, and Barry Gifford of Mayslick, and Branden and Shayne DeBolt of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Betty Ritchie, of Marietta, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel King of Peoria, IL, and Elsa Mae Rudolph of Puyallup, WA; three brothers, Harry Roberts and Darrell Roberts of Bartlett, Ohio, and Rev. Willard Roberts of San Bernardino, CA.

Prior to moving to Maysville in 1983, most of her adult life was spent in the Little Kyger community in Gallia Co., Ohio, and she was active in the Christian church in that community. She was employed for 10 years as a secretary for Bob Evans Farm, Inc. sausage plant at Bidwell, Ohio, was a staff member at Rio Grande College Library for 11 years where she served as Head of Acquisitions at Davis Library, and her latest employment was as secretary for the Sanitary and Landfill Dept. of Gallia Co., Ohio.

She was a member of The Gallipolis Christian Church, and more recently, attended the Aberdeen Baptist Church until her health failed. She was a member of Gallipolis Chapter Order of The Eastern Star and past member and past worthy matron of Cheshire Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem at Gallipolis and Little Kyger Grange.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Brell & Son Funeral Home in Maysville, KY with burial following at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

DARRELL R. ROBERTS

CHESTERHILL – Darrell R. Roberts, 61, of Marietta, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 1986, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.

He was a retired oil field worker; a member of the Evangelical Brethren Church; a member of the Nelsonville Post of the VFW and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Athens County, the son of Orlan and Ruth Robinson Roberts.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian Lockray of McConnelsville; one son, Rex Roberts of Bartlett; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Becky) Roddy of Barlow, Connie Totman of Port St. John, Fla. And Mrs. Dale (Patty) Nixon of Titusville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Dana Lockray of Titusville, Fla., and Don Lockray of Marietta; one step-daughter, Mrs. Dolores Grandon of Bartlett; one brother, Willard Roberts of Rialto, Calif.; and three sisters, Mrs. Helen Swisher of Maysville, Ky., Mrs. Elsa Mae Rudolph of Puyallu0p, Wash. and Mrs. Betty Malone of Marietta.
