Former Buena Vista resident Marjorie “Margie” Ann DeVault, 81, died Oct. 12, 2012, in Penrose. She was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Lamar to Truman Cecil and Georgia Blanche (Langford) Patrick. The family moved to Las Animas in 1942, then lived in Buena Vista from 1945 to 1947. They returned to Las Animas, where she graduated from high school in 1949. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Salida and Las Animas hospitals, as a telephone operator, at Joltons Department Store and at the mill where her father worked.
She met Harold Dean DeVault in 1952. When he returned from serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, they were married in 1953 in Taos, N.M., in a double wedding ceremony with their friends Joanne Price and Gene Harmon. The DeVaults lived in Colorado Springs for a short time, where she worked in a sign factory, then in Buena Vista until 1972, and later in Delta. Mrs. DeVault took care of her mother until her death in 2005. In 2006 she moved to Florence.
Mrs. DeVault loved music and was always singing, humming or whistling.
In her younger years she played the bass cello in a band with her father and sister Bonnie. She joined the Rainbows during her school years, and as an adult she was a homeroom mother and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed drawing, painting, crocheting, embroidering, reading, traveling, bowling, arrowhead hunting, picnicking, fishing, camping, watching wildlife and getting together with family.
Mrs. DeVault was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003 and a nephew, Michael Fowler. Survivor include her sisters, Bonnie (Clarence) Fowler, Peggy (Gordon) Wallace and Sharon (Bill) Yunikar; daughters, Deanne (Roy) Simmons of Delta and Becky (Glenn) Wilde of Penrose; grandchildren, Bryan (Shawna) Reed, Brenda Foster, B.J. (Katie) Simmons, Katrina Simmons, Kevin Simmons and Michael Simmons; great-grandchildren, Brianna Foster, Savannah Wilks, Alexis Comfort and Kailey Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her memorial services were held Oct. 17, 2012, at Historical Gateway Community Chapel, 110 N Santa Fe, Florence. Memorial donations may be made to Fremont Regional Hospice, 1439 Main St., Cañon City, CO 81212. Arrangements were with Charles Anthony Funeral Home in Florence.
