Jane Medley was born in February 1863 in Missouri

; date per 1900 census -- headstone shows 1860. Janes's parents were difficult to identify. Collaborating with Tracy DeVault, we found that Sarah Medley "cousin" and listed in the 1880 census living in the Jesse Paul Medley family, next door to the Samuel Harvey DaVault family, had a sister Jane, born about 1860. Tracy researched the ancestry of Jesse P. Medley and found the grandparents, James A. Medley (1760 - 1849) and Sarah E. Smith. They had a son Jesse, brother of Jesse P. Medley's father Robert Medley, and that Jesse was the father of Jane Medley and her sister Sarah. The following obituary of Nellie (Medley) Sorrell, sister of Jane Medley, confirms the identification:

Mrs. Nellie Sorrell (nee Medley), wife of Richard Sorrell died Nov. 21 near Red Bird, a the age of 70 years. Leaves besides her husband one daughter, Mrs. Clara Rhodes, 2 grand children and I great-grandchild; 1 sister, Mrs. Jane Devault of Pratt, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Sorrell had been married 53 years. Mrs. Sorrell united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in her girl hood days and lived most of her life in and near Red Bird. She will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held November 23 at the Red Bird Church and burial in Bowen Cemetery. Services by Brother Creth Mitchem.

NOTE: Nellie's husband was John Ruben Sorrell, not Richard.

She married James Canny Davault, son of Samuel Harvey Davault and Alvira Foley, in 1883, per his newspaper obituary. Jane Medley died on 13 December 1946. She was buried in December 1946 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, Pratt Co., KS, Findagrave #66040471.

Irma Craig Thatcher

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple in Fall River Mills for Irma Craig Thatcher, 78, who died Tuesday at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Hospital in Los Gatos.

The Rev. Jack Glaze will officiate, assisted by the Order of the Eastern Star. Burial will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in McArthur.

Mrs. Thatcher was born Jan. 7, 1891 near Glenburn in the Fall River Valley. Her husband, Bert W. Thatcher, died Aug. 30, 1969.

She leaves a daughter, Roberta Wilkins of San Jose; a brother, R. I. Nicholson of Yuba City; a sister, Beryl Beckley of Redding; and two grandchildren.
