Alma L., 70, of Edmond, passed away Thursday, June 4, 1998. She was born March 11, 1928 to William R. and Kate C. (Clark) Keeton at Childers (sic), TX. On January 26, 1946, she married Charles R. Stiffler at Bristow, OK, and they spent 43 years together until his death in 1989. She had worked in the Edmond Public Schools as a cafeteria worker. She enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 brothers, Walter, Roy, Leon, and C.L. Keeton. Lionel Gene Patten was born on 18 February 1926 in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor Co., WA,
; WW II draft registration. Son of Warren Hendrick and Catherine/Katherine Cora (Busby) Patten. Lionel's California Death Index record shows "Loyd" for the maiden name of his mother, but that was actually the name of her third husband, Charles W. Loyd. Warren (1888-1983) had a first marriage on 15 MAY 1911 with Anna Agnes Higman (1896-1979) at Spokane, Washington, but that marriage was apparently a short one, with no children, as she remarried to Joe Crabtree in 1920 using her maiden name. Meanwhile, Warren apparently returned to his native Kansas and on 30 JUN 1919 married "Katherine C. Morrison of Coffeyville", according to an article reporting the license in the 10 JUL 1919 issue of The Coffeyville Weekly Journal, page 4 (Newspapers.com). This lady was actually Catherine Cora Busby, as revealed by their 1920 census listing at Hickory Twp., Nowata Co., OK, just south of Coffeyville (Ancestry.com). On this census, ED 64, page 2A, they were living with Cora's widowed mother Zola Margaret "Zoley" (Reese) Busby, and four of her younger siblings. So Cora's first marriage was to a Morrison, name and date unknown. This 1919 marriage was also a short one -- over before the 1930 census, when Cora was listed living with her older sister Dora Whitlock at Tulsa, OK, marital status changed to "M" after "Sep" was crossed out. The legal divorce, which shows the actual date of the marriage, was obtained by Cora on 5 MAR 1934 at Boone Co., AR. She was listed on the 1940 census of Oroville, CA as Catherine Loyd with husband Charles, although the only marriage record found for them online is dated 3 JUN 1964, also at Butte Co., CA. Charles W. Loyd died on 10 OCT 1964, so it looks like the formal marriage was in the context of final arrangements. Katerine C. Loyd passed in 1975 at Oroville. DLB 2025.
