Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Aug. 16, 1936-Jan. 9, 2017

Neil C. Piper, a native of Battleview, ND, died Jan. 9 of natural causes at his home in Loveland, CO with his beloved dog, Britches, there to offer a final farewell.

He was born in Powers Lake, ND in 1936, to Fred and Stella (Carlson Grote) Piper and raised in Battleview, ND. Neil was the eldest of four children born to the couple. He and his siblings joined four other children from their parents' previous marriages.

As a young boy, he and his brothers, cousins and friends roamed the prairie – hunting, fishing and exploring the outdoors. Kids born and raised in the Dakotas during the "Dirty Thirties" were built tough and Neil was no exception.

He completed eight grades of school in Battleview and then he went to work. Neil worked on his parents' farm, those of his relatives and for other farmers. In the early '50s he joined his dad and brothers doing custom combining.

On 01, Jun 1958, Neil married Carol Jensen. They later divorced. They had five children: Brenda, Stacy, Charlotte, Patricia and Bradley. Favorite memories the kids have of their dad include camping trips to Canada, snowmobile outings with friends and hot chocolate, the treasures found while planting trees around their home, his visits to Alaska to see son Stacy and family and cheering on the Denver Broncs with Patty and Britches.

During the North Dakota oil boom of the 1950s, Neil started his career in the gas and oil industry. He worked at the Signal Plant in Tioga, ND. He told stories of driving through whiteout blizzards to service wells. He went on to work for Aminoil, Gage, Raw Energy and retired from Octagon in Bristow, OK. Neil moved to Loveland, CO after retirement.

In 1985, Neil married Faith Wyrick of Bristow, OK. They later divorced.

Neil's hobbies included coin collecting, metal detecting, gardening (especially growing BIG tomatoes) and cooking. Neil had good friends and was a great neighbor to many.

Neil is survived by: his children: Brenda Rogness (Bill Stegmiller), Stacy Piper (Nancy), Charlotte Jaramillo (Rafael), Patricia Piper and Bradley Piper (Brian McNoldy), and his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is sister, Maxine Anderson; brother, Larry Piper; stepbrother, Dean Piper; nieces and nephews and his canine buddy, Britches. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Piper; stepbrothers, Allen Piper and William Frank; and half-brothers, Floyd and Douglas Grote.
