Joseph E. Windle, 78, 4227 Cleveland street, died at a local hospital Wednesday morning. A native of Delaware, O., he came to Cortland from Ohio with his parents in 1872.

On March 11, 1886 Mr. Windle was married to Miss Addie Houck, who survives him, at Geneva, where he farmed until coming to Lincoln 50 years ago. In this city he was a house mover and contractor, : a business from which he had been retired 10 years.

Surviving: with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Esther Castle,San Mateo, Cal.; and Mrs. Ola Gillespie, Lincoln; two sisters, Mrs.Ollie Patton, Lawton, Okla. and Mrs. Alvina Willett, Fairbury; two brothers, Joshua, McAlester, Okla.; and James, Lincoln. (The Lincoln Star, April 8,1942, p10.)

5 May 1940 -- Mrs. Dora Belle Windle

Mrs. Dora Belle Windle, 62, died yesterday afternoon at her home in the Celestine community where she had lived for the last 26 years.

Mrs. Windle was born March 13, 1878 at Firth, Neb. She was married to Poshua (sp) M. Windle August 1894 at Hallam, Neb. and later moved to White City, Kans. where they resided for seven years. Since that time they have made their home at Celestine.

She is survived by her husband J. M. Windle, three sons, J. H. Windle Neosha Rapids Kans., Earl and Vern Windle of McAlester, and six daughters, Mrs. Cora E. Ingram of Hartshorne, Mrs. Merna Province and Mrs. Goldie Lenox of Ringling, Mrs. Eva Eider of Howe, Mrs. Elsie Head of McAlester, and Miss Vergie Windle of the home.

In addition to several grandchildren, she leaves a sister Mrs. Mit Burr of Marshalltown, Iowa, and three brothers, Jim Patton of Benkelman, Neb., Tom Patton of Willow Springs, Mo., and George Patton of Lawton.

Funeral services were being conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the home with Rev. C. L. Johnston of Celestine officiating. Burial was to be at Hickory Grove Cemetery at Haywood under the direction of Chaney's funeral home.

David R. (Bob) Windle, 81, of Stuart, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Saint Johns Medical Center in Tulsa. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Born Jan. 20, 1931, in Haywood, he was the son of Vern and Bertie (Roberson) Windle. He attended school at Bethel Hill, Haywood and Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. He was a Korean War veteran. He retired from the United States Army Ammunition Plant after 30 years of service as a forklift operator. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He also loved his friends and neighbors. Survivors include his wife, Lenora, of the home; a daughter, Marianna Lawson, of Las Vegas, Nev.; three granddaughters Erica, Katie and Nichole, all of Las Vegas; and three grandsons, Lloyd Mason, Josh Mason and Cadin Windle. Also, five sisters, Dorothy Edwards, Violet Jabara, Sue Chubbee, Virgie Walker and Joyce Ward, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Vern and Bertie Windle; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tom and Annie Gewin; sons, David and Andrew Windle; sister, Goldie Windle, and a brother, Bill Windle.

Obituary:

FRANCIS -- Services for Dorothy Belle Edwards, 81, of Francis are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Francis Baptist Church, Rev. Stewart Rising will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Edwards died Saturday, December 27, 2014 in Tulsa. She was born January 14, 1933 in Haywood, Oklahoma to Vern Edgar and Bertie Mae Robertson Windle. She attended Bethel Hill grade school and graduated from Haywood High School.

She married Thomas Edwards. He preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and attended Francis Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosie Hill of Upton, KY; a son, Matthew Edwards of Hartshorne; one brother, John Earl Windle of Florida; four sisters, Joyce Ward, Savanna, OK, Violet Jabara and husband Danny of Krebs, Virgie Walker and husband Jim of Krebs and Sue Chubbee of Antlers; and one grandson, David Motes.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Reuben Edwards; a daughter, Pauline Edwards; two brothers, David Robert Windle and William “Bill” Windle; and a sister, Goldie LaVerne Windle.
