John Henry Snapp married Nancy Herring on 8 October 1847 in McDonough Co., IL. He married Rebecca Sanders on 14 March 1870 in Sullivan Co., MO. He died on 4 December 1873 in Mercer Co., MO.

He was buried in December 1873 in Wintersville Cemetery, Sullivan Co., MO, Findagrave #75774489.


Note:

John H. Snapp came to Macomb township in McDonough Co, IL in 1834, settling about two miles north of Bardolph. He lived here until 1854, when he removed to Sullivan Co., Missouri, where he died in 1872. He was born in East Tennessee, in 1809, where he resided until he came to this county. A son of Mr. Snapp, Alexander, still resides in the county, living in Walnut Grove township. (source: History of McDonough County, Illinois, 1885, Continental Historical Co., Springfield, Illinois)

Harrison Galifant Snapp was born in 1813 in Rockingham Co., VA. He married Emily D. Parry on 24 March 1836 in Greene Co., TN. He married Tennessee Sarah Jane Callen about 1856. He died in 1863 in Boonville, Cooper Co., MO, Confederate soldier, killed in action.

He was buried in 1863 in Snapp Cemetery, Forsyth, Taney Co., MO, Find A Grave Memorial# 77422269.


Note:

Harrison G. Snapp is found in the 1840 census of Taney Co., MO in Swan Township with 1 male under 5, 2 males 20-30 (2nd male, a brother?), 2 females under 5 & 1 female 20-30.

In one of S.C.Turnbo's books entitled Fireside Stories of the Early Days in the Ozarks, Volume 1, Page 10, is an item as follows: "The bottom farm that Mr. and Mrs. Keesee and their daughter Huldah were forced to give up because of Indians that constantly worried them, was known years afterwards as the Hack Snapp farm."

Notes on Page 276, of the book, "The White River Chronicles of S.C. Turnbo, Man and Wildlife on the Ozarks Frontier" had the following:

Note #34- Harrison Snapp (1812-1863) was a descendant of Palatinate Germans who migrated to Philadelphia in 1733, later to Virginia and after the War of 1812 to Tennessee. Harrison came to Missouri with three brothers in 1839. He had a large stock farm on the White River, across from Forsyth (Missouri) and took the lead in several progressive causes. Three of his sons served the Confederacy, while Federals destroyed his fences and outbuildings and killed his stock. The family fled to Cooper County, Missouri, where he died. The First Term of the Taney County Circuit Court after the War was held at Harrison Snapp's house in 1865, as few buildings of any description stood near the County Seat of Forsyth. The Snapp Cemetery, still used by the public, is located on the old farm. Notes on Page 290, of this same book had the following:

Note #48- In June, 1846, Taney Countians (raised a) Militia Company. Harrison Snapp was their Captain. (Miscellaneous records from the "Springfield (Missouri) Advertiser 1844-1846 had the following regarding the foregoing, " a group of volunteers for the Mexican War were organized. Peace had already been declared but they (the Taney Countians) did not know it. When the news was received the Company was disbanded. (above courtesy of Glenn Schultz).

Came to Taney County, Mo about 1840 from Tennessee. Was a successful farmer and for a time Treasurer of Taney County. 1850 Taney Co. census - farmer, $1500.

There are records of "Hack" Snapp being employed as the foreman of a crew to cut a new channel through the shoals of the White River near the mouth of Elbow Creek in 1851 to open the river to riverboat navigation. Confederate soldier during Civil War. Believed to have been killed or died during the War.

Harrison Galifant Snapp began military service Served in the Confederate Army, donated the land for Snapp Cemetery at Forsyth.

Snapp died on 6 September 1891 in Clay Co., MO, Dates per headstone.

He was buried in September 1891 in Missouri City Cemetery, Missouri City, Clay Co., MO, Find A Grave Memorial# 17452056.
Campeachy K. Snapp was also known as "Peachy" Snapp. Occupation: Was a Justice of Peace in Polk County, Mo. He lived on 5 September 1870 in Missouri City, Clay Co., MO. Peachy and Rachel had relocated from Polk County to Clay County with his youngest two children before the 1870 census.3
