NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - Winfield Daily Courier, Saturday, March 5, 1910, page 1:

Fatally Burned

Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Larimore the Victim

Lucile, the nine year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Larimore of 719 Manning, was badly burned probably fatally, Saturday afternoon, by her clothes catching from burning trash. She was raking leaves in the yard with a running fire to burn them. Frequently in a stooping posture in order to pick up the trash her skirts came in contact with some of the low flames and were ignited. When she found she was ablaze she started to running, so that those who tried to catch her in order to put out the fire, did so with great difficulty. Her mother burned her own hands badly trying to beat out the fire or to hold the girl who broke away every time she was seized. She was frightfully burned about the body, but her face escaped. All her clothing was consumed. The physicians have no hopes of her recovery.

DEATH NOTICE - Winfield Daily Courier, March 7, 1910:

Died from burns

Little Lucile Larimore, who was burned Saturday afternoon, died that evening at seven o'clock. The funeral took place from the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Larimore, at half past ten o'clock Monday afternoon.

DEATH NOTICE - The Granville (Ohio) Times, Mar 10, 1910:

On Saturday afternoon of last week, Mr. John Larimore received a telegram from his son, Mr. Richard Larimore of Winfield, Kansas, informing him that his only daughter, age 11 years, was terribly burned while burning paper and rubbish in the yard at their home. Sunday Mr. Larimore received another telegram informing him that the child had died ten hours after the accident. The child's mother, who had been confined to her bed with sickness, was also badly burned in endeavoring to extinguish the flames and it is feared that she cannot survive. Mr. Richard Larimore had intended to be in Granville this week. George Larimore, who is a successful hardware merchant in Oklahoma City, upon being notified of the accident, at once left for the home of his brother.

She was buried in March 1910 in Union Cemetery, Winfield, Cowley Co., KS.

OBITUARY - The Miami Herald, (FL); April 5, 1988; Edition: FINAL, Page: 3D:

'THENA' PERRY, HERALD SOCIETY EDITOR IN '50S

Bethena Townley Perry, who was The Miami Herald's society editor from 1951 to 1954, died Saturday in her daughter's Arizona home. She was 88.

Mrs. Perry -- who used the name Thena -- not only covered society; she was involved in it. When it came time to hire a new society editor, Herald editors decided they wanted someone who was a socialite. They asked Mrs. Perry, who had no newspaper experience.

"Her husband Larry's idea of relaxation was to row out to Biscayne Bay, anchor and fish. But Thena loved society," said friend Marie Anderson.

An outgoing, friendly woman, Mrs. Perry would rush from party to party, phoning articles in to editors.

In 1954, she became a columnist. She worked for The Herald for about another year.

Mrs. Perry and her family were among Miami's pioneers. She was born here in 1900. Her father, pharmacist John Madison Townley, was one of 502 people who voted to make Miami a city on July 28, 1896. He built the first skyscraper, the Townley Building, on Flagler Street. It is still there.

During World War I, Mrs. Perry headed up 15,000 volunteers, most of them women, who worked at the servicemen's pier in Miami Beach, a recreation center for men serving in the war.

"She was a bubbler," said friend Kay Pancoast. "She was bright, warm and friendly."

Mrs. Perry died in Prescott, Ariz., where she had gone 14 years ago to be near her daughter Linda Cheek. In addition to Cheek, she is survived by daughter Amanda Donalds of Massachusetts and sister Rosemarie Smathers of Vero Beach, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Arizona and at 11 a.m. Friday in Woodlawn Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute.

She was buried in April 1988 in Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Miami, Dade Co., FL.

John Warren Perry and Dorothy Rose were divorced before April 1930. He married Nellie Cordelia Wright, daughter of Rev. George Irving Wright and Delia Darrah, Nellie first married a railway employee, Clyde J. Stewart (1894 - 1957), on 2 DEC 1922, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Clyde's problem was that he was already married, at least in common law if not legally, with a wife Marion (Alexander) and son Forrest, born 16 FEB 1921 in Minnesota. Cannot determine when and how this bigamous marriage ended, but it must have been very short-lived. DLB 2021. John Warren Perry died in 1969.
