The choice of "Christopher" as the name of his first son, and "John" for his second son, is consistent with this theory. DLB 2013.

MRS. NANCY W. THARP

Mrs. Nancy Wendell Tharp died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George South, Williamsfield, Ohio, Tuesday, December 16, aged 77 years. Mrs. Tharp was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Wendell and was born in Waynesburg. Her first husband, Obidiah (sic) Wright, died a number of years ago. Later she was united in married (sic) with J. L. Tharp, who is also deceased. She resided in Aleppo township, this county, until four years ago when she went to Ohio and made her home with her daughter. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Samuel Armstrong, of Washington, Pa. The funeral service will be held in the Sycamore Baptist church, Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Interment in the cemetery at Sycamore.

She was buried in December 1930 in West Union Cemetery, West Union, Greene Co., PA, Findagrave #64445301.

George W. Wendell, aged 70 years, of Richhill township, died Monday, March 10, in the Waynesburg hospital, following a three hours' illness from heart trouble. Mr. Wendell was here attending court and was taken ill on the street and removed to the hospital. Mr. Wendell was a son of Silas and Margaret Wendell and was born August 30, 1859, in Aleppo township. He had spent his entire life in western Greene county, where he was well known. He was serving as constable of Richhill township. His wife, Mrs. Jennie Murdy Wendell, died three years ago. Four children survive: Mrs Laura Cooper, of Wind Ridge; James Wendell, of Apollo; Ancel Wendell, of Butler, Pa.; and W. E. Wendell, of Cameron, W. Va. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Nancy Tharp, of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Maria Armstrong, of Washington, Pa.

She was buried in January 1930 in Gosport Cemetery, Gosport, Marion Co., IA.

Note: There were two Rebecca Pettits born in Greene County, Pennsylvania about 1847, who are listed as age 3 in the 1850 census and age 13 in the 1860 census. One was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Pettit, and one was the daughter of Matthias Pettit. I have not seen documentary evidence to prove which Rebecca Pettit married Thomas J. Wendel, so the in-laws of Thomas are subject to revision if evidence surfaces to prove this presentation is erroneous. DLB 2018.
