Neilan N. Landis, Sr.
NEWCOMERSTOWN – Neilan N. Landis Sr., 68, of North Canton, formerly of Newcomerstown, died Monday, Dec. 19, 1988, at Guernsey Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.
Born April 27, 1920, in Greentown, he was a son of Willard and Goldie (Wendell) Landis.
A retired truck driver, he had worked for Shaffer Trucking of Dover.
Landis was a member of the North Canton Church of Christ.
He was a retired member of Teamster Local 92 and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a World War II Army veteran.
On April 19, 1944, he married Maria Sherban. She preceded him in death Nov. 25, 1983. On June 7, 1985, he married Nora Allen, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Neil Landis, Jr. of Newcomerstown, Rick of Tiro and Roni of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Jean) Cantor of Cambridge, Mrs. Vernon (Teresa) Elliott and Debbie Landis, both of Newcomerstown; five brothers, Wendell of Newcomerstown, Ernie and Donald of West Lafayette, Paul of Arizona and Loren of Oregon; a sister, Mrs. August (Dorothy) Kunstmann of Arizona; and eight grandchildren.
Two brothers, two sisters and a grandchild preceded him in death.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the North Canton Church of Christ with Evangelist Blackwood officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church in North Canton.

OBITUARY
Charles Casto Ramsey passed away on December 20, 2008, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Mr. Ramsey was the son of the late Hilman Ramsey and Flora Stowers Ramsey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, USS Antietam during World War II. He gained his naval air wings on the USS Antietam and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He graduated from King College in Bristol, Tennessee, and received his masters degree from the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, WV. He was a member of the Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church and
the Abingdon American Legion #0012.
Mr. Ramsey was a successful football coach at Dundee High School, Dundee, IL, Tazewell High School, Tazewell, VA, Abingdon High School, Abingdon, VA, and East High School in Sullivan County, TN. He coached football and taught at the University of Houston, Houston, TX; Emory and Henry
College, Emory, VA, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Jane Ramsey; his wife of 64 years, Jane DeVault Ramsey; his sisters-in-law, Fain DeVault, Irma DeVault, and Mary DeVault Butcher; and his brothers-in-law, Edward DeVault, Nolan Butcher, and Bud Zeig.
Charles Casto Ramsey is survived by one son, Charles Hilman 'Skip' Ramsey, Damascus, VA; one daughter, Mary Fain Ramsey and her husband Lewis Purifoy, Charlottesville,
VA; one sister, Ruby Zeig, Galion, OH; two nieces, Karla Cline and Martha Butcher Crowe; five nephews, Steve Zeig, Randy Zeig, James Butcher, Ed DeVault, and Russell DeVault; two grandchildren, Anna Ramsey Purifoy and Layla Anne Smith; and three great grandchildren, Isabella Smith, Solana, and Nyellie Valles.
A graveside service for Mr. Ramsey will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at 1 p.m., at the Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Charles Casto Ramsey Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 950, C/O Emory & Henry College, Emory, VA. The time and date of a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
